Jerry Hill; on the mend
« on: October 23, 2010, 05:31:00 AM »
I was fortunate recently to be in correspondence with Mr Hill who was kindly explaining some points of archery development he's conversant with. He wished it be known to his friends on Trad that due to a mild stroke he has been out of commission for the last few months but recovering well. Since, he has not felt much like writing. To all that have enjoyed and missed his stories he reckoned he’d be back in the saddle soon. We'r lookin forward to that. Cotton mouths beware! Gods speed Jerry

Jerry is a straight-up good guy. About 1992, I had bought an early longbow made by him. At 76#, it was one hard shooting bow. Don't think I've ever had one that was its equal. Well, that bow came apart on me one day at the handle. I first called Jerry, then sent him the bow. He said he'd see what he could do. A few days later he called me and said he didn't trust repairing the bow, but he'd make me a new one to my specs at a good price. He was more than true to his word - he built me a much nicer bow, a 69" 80# beauty. He sent me a bill for $125, probably a third or less of what that bow would have sold for at the time. I shot it for years until 80# became a little much for my shoulder. I've never forgotten his gracious handling of my problem. By the way, I'd bought that bow used, it was several years old, and he didn't owe me anything, except that he's the kind of guy who stands behind his work no matter what.

Jerry, get better soon. I had a minor stroke last year (September) as well, so I feel ya, brother. I've made a full recovery and pray that you will as well.

From a fellow Alabamian,
Ken
