A Belated Birthday Gift....
« on: October 23, 2010, 01:05:00 PM »
Since I just turned 44 the other day I felt like spending a morning in the deer woods was a good idea.

With my ol' reliable Bear TD I was perched high above the Maryland woods as the full moon illuminated the scene around me.

Deer were around me early as I waited for the sun to come up and I could only watch them in the moonlight. Since it is early muzzleloader season here I wanted to stay patient as others usually push deer onto our farm.

About 7:40 I see a lone deer coming down the oak flat headed my way!

As the deer approached its head went behind a big clump of trees so I grabbed my bow and stood up.

Closer and closer until close enough I could tell it was a small spike buck. My brain was on "fire" mode so when he stepped out from behind a small sapling and was ever so slightly quartering away I let fly.

I shoot a homemade arrow made up to look like an "old school" Bear arrow and the white shaft looked awesome as it found its mark!

And then???
Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's forehead...when your longbow with a blunt will work!

Close up, close up! I can't see his head. I know you got one, you took pictures of everything else. Lets see those pearly whites!!

And finally!!

This is my 3rd year with trad gear only. Lots of ups and downs along the way but when I walked up on this one I will admit to getting pretty emotional.

Thanks guys and good luck to everyone!!
