Saturday morning I went to a new area to hunt. I was in the tree well before shooting light but just could not get setup right, so finally set I watch the sun rise and wait for the deer to show. Around 9:00 two does start working toward me from the area I have been sitting. The walk to the hills edge and look out over the creek and pasture for several minutes. It takes 30 minutes for these two to make it to me and it was only 40 yards. They were just eating move toward me then away. One doe feeds right under me, I shoot when see is8 yards and give her a hair cut, she jumps and moves to a spot 20 yards in front of me so I shoot again right under her. The deer move to a spot that is 30 yards away but behind some trees. They really want to come my way but are not sure. They start to move away after 10 minutes so I play with them and use my grunt call, the little one does not stay around she hot foots it out of there but momma starts to come my way but turns and leaves.
When I got home I started shooting my target to find out why I missed. Well I had 4 arrows in my quiver to longer than the other 2. I had not cut the long ones off so I cut them down and shot again and fixed the problem.
Sunday I go back to the same tree and get up in the tree quick this time. Before I could pull anything up I hear sticks braking so I pull my bag up and get it tied off then my bow. I get set down and it is 7:00 so I wait for day light. The sun come up and I can not see any deer. Then at 7:45 here they come again, the same two does. This time they are walking down the trail in the wood eating they stop at the same place and look out over the hillside at the creek and the pasture. The feed to me and away to me and away. Then the split one going out where they were the day before the other down the trail that is 20 yards from me. She is very cautious sniffing the ground and looking around. She moves toward me then past a shooting lane turns and feeds back toward the other direction and stops broadside behind a tree, This is very tempting but it would be a liver shot the lungs are exposed but I know I would shoot left to so I would not be close to the tree. She moves to a spot that is 25 yards and turns to me walks in 5 yards and turns around and walks angling to the 20 yards spot quartering away and I am thinking this is it shoot as soon as she is in the spot. I glance over to make sure the other deer is not going to bust me, look back at the first deer and draw and the arrow hits good. I did catch my jacket sleeve so I did not get a pass through. The deer takes off down the hill crashing I listen for splashing but do not hear it. I look over and the other deer is just feeding after 10 minutes she jumps 20 yards and is just on the other side of a tree from me. She then runs toward where the other deer went. I wait and then follow. There was no blood found at the hit spot so I just follow the track in the leaves down the hill. Halfway down I find a spot of blood the more at the bottom and my arrow she is headed for the creek. I look at the bank on the other side to try and see where she might try to go up and see her laying in the creek bed.
I picked up the Spirit longbow to use while I was waiting on my Falcon to be built. It is a great shooting bow. The misses were all me. I can't wait to see what the Falcon will do. I just received it and started shooting it.
