New Habu coming shortly!
« on: October 27, 2010, 11:36:00 PM »
It will be 3 years this Thanksgiving since I got on the list for a new "baby".  I'll have another one soon.  A new Habu...my favorite bow.  I've got an older recurve, a viperkhan with longbow limbs...and now I'm going to get a viperkhan with hycurve limbs.  Not sure if I will have it for this deer season, but will have it for turkey season. Life if good!

Wow, I didn't know if any body was actualy buying these bows... I was on his website the other day and tey sure look great but I was wondering why his bows were so expensive. I'm sure they are worth the money and good for you to be able to aford them!!
To my eye they look a lot like a BW... Do they shoot that much better? How long is the waiting list? What are the specs of you comming bow, woods, #, lenght etc.

Hey David.  I've been shooting habus since around 2000 I think. I love them.  The vyperkhan has a completely different feel than a black widow in my opinion.  The habu is just that one bow that for me, just feels right.  They are expensive, but I generally only keep 2 or 3 bows around at a time so for me its no big deal.  Lots of great bows out there, I just happen to like Habus the best.

Maybe I am picky however I use a detailed list of features that I want to see in a bow. The unfortunate aspect of using this list is that when I finally find the one that fulfills these requirements, in most cases it ends up on the expensive side.  Even though you have covered all the bases on paper, it still doesn’t translate into the bow and you will jell.

I have had three bows in the upper price ranges with the BW having been the lowest cost. I had shot my buddies Habu numerous times over the past several years. Each time I shot, it felt distinctly more comfortable than the any of the ones I had shot 1000’s of times even though it was 6-7#’s heavier than I was accustomed to. I felt certain this time that the detailed spreadsheet and test runs were actual justification instead of rationalization. So I finally sold all my bows to finance this one. This move has proven to have been a fine decision for me.

Habu’s may never bask in the glory that others enjoy due to their price, low profile advertising, availability and long waiting list. My insatiable quest for the right bow, for me, has been quelled for some time

I just went to their website.  The bow looks very nice. Maybe a bit more streamlined than Widows?  It appears the choices are easy because they only offer limb and riser woods in bocote and cocobolo?  This is fine with me because those are two of my favorites - Coco for weight and bocote for figure.

The bow is pretty salty but a decked out Schafer or Snakebit both approach this cost also.  I'd love to put my hands on one to try!  Do they have a test-drive program?

Thanks

I`ve been one year on the waiting list now...  :campfire:

Is it really three years before you can get one?

Guys, on the waiting list thing.  I believe Chris told me a while back that he accidently misplaced my name on the list.  It was no big deal to me since I already have 2 others that I shoot often.  I know he has been taking measures to shorten his waiting list, so I don't think that nearly 3 years will be the norm.  That's just how it went for me, and I'm ok with it.  I love the bows so much that it does not bother me at all anyway.
I have not decided on the specs yet...will need to soon, as mine is next to be built, other than something in the 55lb. range.  I'm a sucker for bacote, but he told me a while back he may have some extremely nice ebony again, so I may go with that if it is available.
Chris has narrowed down his wood selection because he is extremely particular about wood.  He recently went to Mexico to select each log for his bacote and cocobolo bows.  I'll post some pics when she comes to me.  But right now, I gotta go.  Gonna hunt for the better part of two weeks in a very good whitetail area here in Illinois.  Good luck guys!

I first heard about Habu from Roger Rothhaar at a bear camp in Sask....when I asked what bow he would shoot if he could not make his own and was not sponsored.  Habu is what he replied...

I shot one and loved it...feels much smoother and lighter than its rated weight...well balanced...stable.  It was a gray colored recurve from lee (dogman) but I hated the color...so sold it to Fearless in Colorado (RIP Fred Chappel)...and ordered an exact match in brown in 1999.  Paid about $700 and it is a pure joy to shoot.

The habu bows are the only bow that i have wanted to try and never could get my hands on one.

Let us know how she shoots.
