Didn't have any luck on Thursday morning. Saw eight deer, but the high winds had them pretty spooked and they were all heading to the creek bottom at a gallop.
After a weekend with the grandson in TN, we made it home Sunday by 2:30 p.m. After getting unpacked, I decided to hit the woods for a quick afternoon hunt. It was the last day of our early turkey season, so when I had 17 birds parading around at 25 to 35 yards I was thinkin' that maybe I would get a crack at a bird. They just kept working their way further into the woods toward their roost area leaving me pretty disheartened.
I glanced to my left and 20 yards from my stand stood a button buck and a doe. I repositioned myself and noticed another doe on down the trail. The first two fed off down the trail and I focused on the last doe.
She fed her way to me and at 20 yards, she stopped broadside and turned her head away from me. Hit her tight behind the right front leg and popped a rib and the leg bone on the way out. Her offside leg broke the arrow off as she bolted, leaving 5" of shaft in her chest. She dropped about 60 yards away.
I got in the stand at 4:30, shot the doe at 5:30, had her field dressed and loaded on the cart at 6:30 and checked in at the processors at 7:30!
I didn't get a turkey, but I've got fresh venison headed to the freezer!
I do have one cell phone pic, but it is a new phone and I don't have a cord to transfer it to the computer! I will try to figure it out and post it if anyone is interested.
