Me and a buddy are gonna go in half on a dehydrator, possibly the bigger Cabelas commercial model, it's about mini-fridge size. Anybody have any experience with this one, or know better deal on a similar size unit? I tried to do a search and came up with nothing. Thanks.

I do my jerky after watching Good Eats on the food network. He used 2 air vent paper filters and placed the meat on the ridges and placed the other screen on top secured them with a bungee cord and sat them against a square floor fan(fan on) on the back side.I tried it and it works great. Also have done it hanging the meat with squires across the oven racks with a pan on the bottom at low heat. I can't see buying a big jobber like that unless I am doing tons of meat.JMHO but good luck with what you get.Tim

I've got an Excalibur 9 tray model that I have been using a lot for the last 10 years without a complaint. With a Jerky Shooter to lay the meat out it takes about 7-8 hours to dry a batch (roughly 12lbs wet weight). I've put several hundred pounds through it.

I also have the excalibur i bought from cabelas. Very happy with it. My favorite recipe is half worscestire sauce and half Franks red hot sauce, I also put in some ketchup.

Thanks for the replies. Is the Cabela's brand made by excalibur?

I use a model from Cabels's-around $150- that has 10 trays and works well.I add red wine, worstershire, and A-1 to my basic recipe. Works well and never can keep it once it comes out of the dehydrator.
