What a week, no shots all season, then two in two days! Was walking into my blind, down an old road bed, turned a corner and there is a big bodied buck making a scrape in the edge of the field, 20 yards from my blind! I take 5 big steps while fishing out an arrow and about the time I get it on the string, I look up and he is looking at me. I freeze, he stares a hole though me for 30 seconds, and goes back to making a scrape! I cant believe this but somehow my bow arm is poking out, I start drawing, it seems like in slow motion, and then I see the fl. yellow feathers stop right behind the shoulder and hear WHOCK!! He jumps, the arrow falls out and he takes off running across the fied, hits the woods at 70 yards stumbling and then goes over the knoll, and out of site. Then I see a sapling shaking, he has run into it, but it keeps on doing it. HE IS DOWN! I give him 20 minutes, then go over and there he is, nice fat 9 point, will do about #150 dressed! 25 yard shot,90 yard recovery!!His tarsals are black, neck swollen, and treebark in his horns. I am stoked, was beginning to thinkk all the practice and hard work of shooting all year was going to waste, but it can all change in two days, two shots! Got to get him dressed, pics after while Mudd.
