Great pics and story bud !

Like Guru said, those cold still mornings are what keep us alive. Nothing like sitting in almost dead silence then hearing those frosty leaves getting crushed by a herd coming your way. You almost cannot wait to see what is coming. Keeps you totally relaxed too knowing that nothing can get by you since you can hear EVERYTHING. I hate those windy or wet days when you have to be on constant alert and looking all around to make sure nothing is sliping by you.

Jack, Don and I went to Pendleton County week before last for only a couple of days--all the time he could manage.  Saw a few but no venison.  He hunted at Hoppy's this week--had to go to Orlando for a medical conference so swung by Hoppy's and was the only guy there.  Last I heard he got one with the dogs and had one more morning to hunt.  Hogs are back in the swamps gorging on acorns that are abundant this year and not coming to the feeders at all right now.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Great story, shot and deer. I shot a doe once, center her heart, and she ran nearly 300 yards across a field keeping up with 4 other does, and crashed 10 feet in the woodline. Her heart was in 3 pieces, running on pure adrenaline.

Way to go Jack, glad you ended her hurting-looks like it was sore as h***.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
