How many of you guys film your own hunts
« on: November 09, 2010, 09:41:00 AM »
This archery season my buddy and i have been really excited about filming each other while hunting with our trad gear, we were fortunate to film me harvesting a doe on camera, but some weekends we are unable to get together to film. So i went ahead and bought a Gorilla Camera arm, and set up my camera for filming myself. I was just wondering how many of you guys film yourselves? How hard is it? are there any good tips for filming by myself? Thanks!

I do it too! I've found it quite easy when I was shooting a compound but much more difficult with the stick. I really need to focus on the shot with trad. equipment and have a hard time focussing on the shot when messin' with the camera. The best tips I have are;

1. Try to place the camera arm in a place that doesn't limit shot opportunities. (learned the hard way)

2. I try and keep the camera and arm to my right side as I can still hold my bow in my bow hand (as I'm right handed)

3.Don't zoom to tight....it's too difficult to keep the animal in the frame.

4. Have the camera pointed towards the most likely shot opportunity position in case of a fast approaching animal.

5.video some filler footage (it makes for a nicer edited video)

I'll post more when I think of them...Ryan

i film my hunts as well. i do exactly what Manitoba Stickflinger does.

But personally im hunting first then filming. so if i feel that im going to get busted trying to move my camera. i just leave it alone or push it to the side so i can get a shot.

I'm using the same arm as you but have modified mine a little with 2 more aluminum pieces so that I can get all the way around the tree.Also wrap teflon tape around the pivot points so that it's quiet & smooth moving...here's a few picts...

bluegrass that is a pretty sweet set up. Do you guys find the camera arms gettin in the way of your bow when shooting? what is the best positon to keep it out of the way while still being able to get some footage? I shoot a 64 inch bow so its kinda obnoxious in tree stands lol

I wish I had done more.  Forget the deer, take pictures of your friends.
