Ok, so I was up loading feed in my feeder today at a friends property that I hunt. When I was putting the left over feed away in his barn two does run into a small apple orchard behind the barn. Then I see the buck run in behind them. Seeing he's a shooter I go to my truck to grab my bow. I got about 40 to 50 yards away from the 3 deer and have a stare off for about 10 min. standing there in the rain until I decide that the deer aren't going to let me get close enough. So I circled around the property and snuck in the back side of the orchard. It was still raining hard enough to cover a lot of the noise that I was making so I thought that I might have a good chance getting in unnoticed. I peeked around the last corner before reaching the orchard and Bam I was busted the buck was looking right at me 30 yards away. I love hunting the rut because after a few min. he forgot about me and went back to eating apples and playing with his does. The does ran right past me about 5 feet from me they spooked and at this time the buck was following close behind. He held up right behind a fence 10 yards away while I was at full draw. I held it for about 30 sec. then let it down to half draw for another minute and a half while he stared at me. I saw his eyes look over towards where the does ran then bolted after them. About to bounds lined him up perfect and I took the shot but in all the excitement I forgot to lead him and hit way far back and he was quartered away. Oops. But I saw him slow down and stagger a bit after running about 40 yards, I went to that spot and found great blood every couple of feet.I backed off and called a friend and he convinced me to wait two hours before looking for him. Turned out he only made it another 20 yards, who knows how far he would have ran in I would have pushed him. Oh and thanks for taking the pictures Elknuts.
