As a newb to trad hunting I have a burning question that's been gnawing at me. I want some opinions on wether my hunting arrow is heavy enough. Here is my setup. 60" 57#@27" recurve, I draw to about 27.5". I'm shooting 29" xx75 2117 w/3 4" feathers, std aluminum inserts, and a screw in snuffer 125. Looking at an arrow chart, I'm thinking my total arrow wgt is just shy of 500 grns. I am new to this sport and respect the game I pursue too much to chance a bad experience. Am I OK with this arrow? If not, how can I add some wgt with materials I have on hand or around the house.

PEARL DRUMS

Your ok in my opinion, but a heavier arrow is always better, again in my opinion. 11-14 grains a pound is what I strive for. Heavy arrows fly flatter, longer and retain most of their energy. Plus, my bow feels and sounds great with some meaty arrows.

I use 600 grains to 650 grains if I can with a similiar set up and Agree heavy is better to a point. But heavy arrows do not fly flatter, they arch more. Get to know your bow and use the same arrow weight when hunting or target shooting. Good luck

and as pearl drums says..heavy arrows are quiet and easier on the bow .

I actually tried some 150 gr fld pts, but the did not fly as weel as the 125 Snuffers.

Your shooting exactly my weight and draw length,Add a 75 or 100 grain steel BH adapter and It will be better.I like 5-1/2" helical shield cuts ,seams to work better for me.
Quote from Howard Hill.( Whenever he taught someone to shoot) "Son make up your mind right now if you want to target shoot or hunt as theres a world of differance between the two"
