After a long journey, I got my first traditional kill this morning. After being on my stand for about an hour I had a doe come through with 5 bucks trailing behind. There was a monster 10 ptr, two 8 ptrs and 2 scrubs. They hung around my stand just out of range for about 10 minutes. The 10 pts was Snort Weezing non-stop. Once they moved on, I continued to grunt call. After 30 minutes or so a larger body buck with a small 5 pt rack came in to my calls. At 15 yards I shot over his back. The Buck ran about 15 feet and walked back in my direction. I knocked another arrow and released. This time the shot was still high, but I hit him in the spine and he hit the ground immediately. What a rush!!! This was probably one of the high lights of my hunting career, since I did it with a recurve on public land. I could not believe it, after several years of trying I had finally taken a deer with a recurve. How cool is that. Of all the deer that I have taken with guns, which have been some really nice bucks, this is by far my greatest trophy. The only comment my daughter had was, "Are we making jerking?".
I love traditional archery!
