I'm gonna have to try some of these!

Jerry Simmons is a good friend of mine. He's a top-notch inventor and the best whitetail woodsman I know.  Jerry once told me that his "original non-vented Interceptor" could be considered a barbed head due the acute backward angle of the blades.  On the other hand the newer "vented Interceptor", as well as it's non-vented version, is NOT a barbed head having a very different angle.  I showed my collection of Simmons heads to a KY game warden friend of mine who agreed that only one in my collection would be considered barbed here.  For the record I haven't seen that particular head in any of the photos posted on Tradgang.  Jerry gave me a sample of every head that he ever invented for a Simmons catalog photo I took several years ago.  I eventually arranged all of them in a shadow box as a keepsake. I guess I could post a photo of that since it includes the so called "barbed head".

This is the way it was explained to me.  The original interceptors are barbed.  Look at the wing section of the heads and you will see the curve on the back end.  The vented interceptors were created without that effect on the back of the head to keep them legal in certain states.  In SC, GA, & Al the originals are legal.  In NC, the originals are not so I use my vented when hunting up there.

Compare the backs of these heads to the original Interseptor and you will see what I mean.

Thanks Gary for clearing that up.  I just can't remember who told me that years ago but it was some one back in Bama.  Maybe Lynn Harrelson.

:D

Note Mr. Ferguson's broadhead.

My question now is can these be file sharpened?  I've never tried a concave curve with file.

Stumpkiller, they can be sharpened with a file!! The file just has to be round.

Great shooting on those deer! Love to see guys killing them with the simmons heads. I normally stay away from posting on my own product but I thought that I would clear something up before it got out of hand.....The Simmons heads are not even "technically illegal in any of the 50 states or any country in the world. The return edge of the broadhead has to be of atleast 90 degrees or the head is considered barbed. All of my heads meet or exceed this criteria except for one. The original Interceptor or SB 40. It is illegal in 38 of the 50 states because it is considered barbed.

Hope this helps ya'll out.

Again congrats on the kills guys if you can email me some of those pics and I'll putm on my site. Thanks and God Bless! Dave

Hey gang I sharpen the trailing edge - so it basically becomes a leading edge and will cut if it comes out backwards - eliminates any so called "barb"
