Do "A" handles generally have beefier handles than "B?

I'm currently waiting 13 weeks for a new Black Maple with 2 sets of #3 limbs...I may have to trade one of my other bows for a used TD in the meantime!

Nigel - Most of the A handles I've held, including the one I own, seem a bit beefier than most B's.  The new B's are not as beefy as the greenstripes.  I'm not sure why.  They should be similar.

My green stripe B has the perfect handle for me. Not too big, not too small, Just right!
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Here is a pick from the 2016 ATA show, courtesy of my fellow Bear Staff Shooter Kenny Branham. I thought some of you might enjoy it.

Yes, available at Rose City Archery, I don't think they have the website updated yet for these, so you may have to call them.

Hi guys,
today I would like to get you appreciate opinions about a green/ Brown stripe B riser I recently bought on a famous auction platform.

The seller, I don`t believe it was one of you guys, announced the bow (it came with original green tip limbs of 65 Pounds) as follows:

"Used in new condition Fred Bear Archery Kodiak Custom T/D Take Down Recurve bow"

and further

"Fred Bear Custom Kodiak T/D takedown recurve bow.  60" 65#  Excellent condition, like new.  This has the gold emblem in the riser and the green tips on the limbs, comes with a "stringer"  This bow is great for travel as it breaks down for easy transport.  Really a great bow and desirable in the takedown model.  Riser is multi colored laminate.  Definitely a piece of art and a functional hunting tool, just needs a string.

The bow is in nice condition, so far so good. But I would not have it decribed "as new" because it has a varnish scratch in the window which is just a visual issue, but a bigger one. The limbs are straight and true. So they are in very good condtion and "as new" comes very Close.

But beside that I noticed immediately after unwrapping the bow from the package a crack in the riser, below the top latch. It popped up quickly in my eyes.
Please give me your opinion. Does that crack (it is one in my opinion, hope the Fotos can show that) makes the bow just a wall hanger??? I agreed on stunning 600 bucks buy t now selling Price as the seller said the bow is as new I have  asked for if the bow is really as new, which was confirmed by the seller.
The seller told me after my complained, that he was not Aware that this is a crack and local People who showed interest and came for watching the bow, didn`t tell him that this is/ could be a crack.

Appreciate you thoughts and opinions and advice!!!

Best regards
Kermit

The following is just my opinion as a Bear TD aficionado.

That's about "as new" as a bow built in the early 1980s is going to get. The finish on it is 30+ years old after all, and even if it was not used the finish would develop small cracks. And that looks to me like a typical crack in the finish, and green stripe TDs were prone to small finish cracks.

Go ahead and shoot it and enjoy it. You got it for one heck of a favorable price. I would expect a green stripe in very fine to newish condition like that one to cost a lot more.

You didn't mention the serial number but it does look like a early to mid 80s bow. Those risers were resin impregnated maple. Very strong.

If you are concerned you could put some Loctite 420 in there using an insulin syringe.  If it is a crack it will wick in. There will be some cleanup but if you mask off closely around it and are careful you can lightly scrape off the residue and polish that spot easily.  If it were my bow I'd measure the crack and shoot the bow, keeping en eye to see if the crack gets bigger.

I been watching this and finally broke down and picked one up a last month.  So far I like it though I have only shoot in basement at sort range.  Here are a couple pictures.

Couldn't bear to put a ding in one of the wooden ones...

What sort of price should I be looking at?

Thanks

Alex - The short answer is - it depends.  You can find them for about $400 and up depending on condition.
