Hi Cavescout,
yes, products of BEAR Archery made their way around the globe.!!
Some fans around in europe. And still a very popular brand!
I started Target Archery in a club in my hometown Cologne/Germany, back in 1985.
I was 15 years old. First bow they took in my hands was a Damon Howatt Cavalier with 24lbs and a bit later a York Crest with 26 lbs and then a DH Ventura, before I got my first rental TD Recurve (still wooden handle).
Before I was already continuesly atrackted by bow and arrow. I guess it started at the age of 3 or 4,
when my Grandaunt bought my first bow in a toy-store, while waiting at a bus-stop. This is the earliest "bow-story" I can remember.
It was a red coloured split-bamboo latch :-).
She bought me the same bow a second time some months later. But then green coloured as this was my favorite colour when I was a kid.
And probably this was the seed for that I still can`t imagine a life with just one bow :-).
And Marketing guys of Bear Archery know that probably :-)
Years and many selfmade bows later and still the Bow and Arrow fire in me,I went to my local Archery club in Cologne in 1985
and got in contact with some of the german archery olditmers of this time and they showed me the old BEAR catalogs from the 70`s and lighted this way the fire in me for BEAR bows.
I did target archery for many years but always stayed tuned to the old shool equipment like english longbows (Robin Hood fan throughout my lifetime), HH-Longbows
and recurves in general.
In the 80`s only a tiny part of german archers did the traditional way. Target archery was what the majority did.
Today it changed a bit. Traditional archery (3D) became very popular during the last 15-20 years, but still is a niche sport,
like archery in general, compared with soccer or so. Bowhunting is forbidden either in Germany (where I come from) and
Switzerland (where I live).
It is really great to get in contact via the internet to other people who have the same "problem" with archery addiction :-)
Cheers
Marco
