I keep looking at these post and have always liked the looks of the Kodiak  With that said, I have been shooting a Black Widow for years. So for those of you that have shot both. How does the bear grip and the standard BW grip compare? I have a new model 59 and although I fine shooting bow the grip does not suite me, it's too small for my taste.

MCNSC, Bear grips seem to have changed over the years. There was a time guys complained they were to fat. So Bear now has gone back to the slimmer grips.
My BW made in the mid 80's had a bulky grip. For some reason I could not get into that bow which was odd because I used to build up the grips on my compounds when I was on the dark side. Not everyone is alike, but to answer your question, yes, there is a difference, just my results are opposite.

Over the years there have always been differences in Bear grips because different guys did the shaping.  Compared to the Black Widows I've owned Bear grips are slimmer in the throat area. On the newer Bears the B handles seem to be a bit slimmer than the A handles.  I have a B Bubinga that is very slender in the throat. Thinner than a mid-80s green stripe I have.  I have a new two-tone A that is slim but just a bit meatier than the B.  I read on another forum that three of Bear's long-time employees retired and new folks are taking their place.

The standard grip on my PCH feels much better than the grip on my new Bear A riser. The 1R grip on my A mag riser also feels slimmer and better than the wood A riser. I am seriously considering breaking out the file and sander.....

Ok, so how do the A riser grips compare to the new model 59s?  I am real close to purchasing a used take down with an A riser but have never saw one in person and it's hard to tell by pics. Like mentioned above the grip on the 59 is too small for my taste.

Think the grips may change a little year to year. My '07 A grip is pretty darn small. I had it beefed a bit with a beavertail grip that makes it feel better in my hand. Sooooo for an accurate answer you might tell a year of make. Sounds like Pauls is chunkier.

I have both. The grip on the 59 is more like a longbow grip. The grip in the A riser is more substantial. It may be a good idea to buy a bow you can return if you don't like it. I can tell you that I have had a lot of bows, custom and production. I am in the position of having to reduce my number of bows. I've gotten rid of many with good grips like old Howatts, Browning Explorers and Howard Gamemaster Jets. The bows I am keeping to hunt with are the Bear Takedowns.

Don't get me wrong, the wood A riser has a good, solid grip and it's not bad at all. I just like the standard Black Widow and 1R mag grip better. Sounds like you'll have to just try one for yourself.

My new to me "A" mag riser and #2 limbs should get here Thursday or Friday. I can't wait to shoot it and see what this is all about.  Heck I may have to even take it hunting at some point.
