Bought a TD I little while back and it shoots great, as good as any bow I have shot one question though, it needs an extremely high nock point and I ended up putting a Bear Weather rest on it to get my fetching to stop hitting my bow hand. I had a Morrison once that shot great but needed a higher nock point. Any others have this issue?
Like I said the bow shoots great and will probably be my go to hunting bow this year, but I do wish I could shoot it off the shelf.

How high is your nock point? Some TDs need 3/4" or even 7/8" depending on how well the pair of limbs are timed to each other. Don't be afraid to raise it up more. Also, do the afraid to raise the brace height. Most of my TDs want a brace of 8.25" to 8.5" to shoot well. Both nock height and brace height can effect the fletch clearance.

I have a couple of friends that really like the mags even better than the wood risers for hunting.  Interesting that they both like A mags with #3 limbs.

Someday I'll have to get one to see what the fuss is about.  They'll have to go some to beat my wood handled takedowns.

Can someone tell me the size designation of the Phillips head Machine screws that anchor the sight plate and the adjustable side plate? How about a source?

Thanks in advance, Daryl

Another term for traditional might be classic. Classic is something that is hard to improve on if not impossible. The Bear take down fits in that category and is something that you would not want to change a thing about.

I used one of my two tone A riser with #3 64 lb limbs to take an elk in colorado a couple weeks ago, hunting partner used a greenstripe, we both used bear razorheads, bet that aint happened on the same mountain in awhile.

The Bear TD is a classic design. While many custom bowyer tweak their models over the years, changing riser styles, lengths, etc. the Bear is essentially the same today as it was when introduced over 45 years ago. The only changes have been in the wood combinations. With Howatt going to new ownership the Bear TD may be the last bow still built today as it was when it first came out decades ago.

I love them all but my Bubinga Riser is my favorite to shoot.

Wonderful Collection! Congratulations!
What makes the all Bubinga your favorite shooting bow?
I recently got the chance to buy an all Bubinga second hand. But still have to shoot it a first time.

How would they shoot for someone with a really short draw length...say 24.5 "?

Is there anyone else who produces a takedown with such a locking mechanism? I don't like using hex screws as I am always scared of over tightening. I also don't fancy paying a 2-30 yr old bow for 600 dollars, so if you know of an alternative maker of such a bow I would be must appreciated.

Cheers
Alex

Alex, You can buy a brand new Bear T/D for about $800 (US)

An "A" handle, with #1 limbs, makes a 56" bow. (Like I have) Perfect for a shorter draw!!!

Subtract about 3# for every inch under 28" to get your desired draw weight.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

HI Woodchucker,

Thanks for the information and recommendation. My draw is 25", so I will look for an A riser.  I think I will have to buy one over there and ship it here... I haven't see any outlets here for Bear takedowns.

In anycase, I think I am look for used...For now, atleast.
Cheers
Alex

Love the Bubinga TD, modified this quiver a little to match the bow better.  spreading out the contact points make the system a lot more stable and keeps the arrows from flopping around.
