How many of you own a bow that is not a bad looking bow just practical. It is the bow that is your secret weapon. If you put it on the classifieds it may not get a lot of looks. Not that you would part with it but it just would be a sleeper.


   The thing that sets this bow apart from your others is the shear performance and the confidence you have with it in your hand. I just got a bow from a fellow ganger in trade. This bow surprised me greatly. It just looked ordinary no wow factor but I kept looking and took the chance on the trade. The bow is a Fedora xcellerator with a SBD string and she is 62" 57#@28". Wow,wow and wow. Fast and my first three arrows straight from the tube owner left the string where he was shooting the bow. I took my target and placed it about 15 yds, the first 3 arrows were nearly touching and the fourth arrow caused me to replace a nock. I have never had a bow straight out of the tube shoot the way this bow did for me. This is a bow I just have to take a hog or deer with, maybe a bear and elk would be nice as well. It may be a so so bow for you but that is the purpose of this thread. Let me know what you have that may not appeal to the masses or win a beauty contest but is just a performer. If she is a looker great let's hear about that too. Thanks   :campfire:

i got a very used hornes traditionalist its 62"50 lbs and is scratched up pretty good but it shoots a 500 gr arrow so fast i can hardly believe it ,and it will shoot any spine arrow ! i have no idea why .ive tried others and although they shoot good nothing and i mean nothing compares to this one and it shoots where i look. i take it on every hunt i go on and ill never sell it , i paid around 200 for it. i just dont understand it but who knows!!!   :bigsmyl:

Sky Eagle 62" 50@28, real ugly but completely functional. But I love it.

I've got a 21 century. 62" 55 @ 27" I have bought and sold 6 different bows but never ever even thought about selling that bow.  I've killed elk, mule deer and white tails with it.  Right now it is retired but NOT FOR SALE....

Just started shooting ILF and I can't say enough good things about them.  Mine is definitely not a looker, but wow what a shooter.

I've owned many custom bows (Robertson, Bighorn, Big River, McCullough, several Blacktails, custom Bear, bows straight from Hatfield, Black Widows and more) and I'm having more fun with these new ILF bows then ever.  Would they sell like a Blacktail?  No way.

Its funny that you mention it S.C. with our regular bow season over now in southern NY I took out my ACS today, if for no other reason than to give my old Bear takedown a rest, and I was thinking the same thing once I finished practicing.

I know the ACS is legendary for its speed and performance but I'd forgotten how comfortable it is to shoot...smooth and quiet..with a grip that just fits my style as perfectly as any grip on any bow I've ever owned. It's really plain looking with its black limbs and darkening osage/glass riser..not really much to look at compared to some of the other bows I've owned over the years that were real works of art...

I shot it so well, especially after not having shot it for so long, that I found myself wondering why I didn't choose this one to hunt with..lol..

I spent some time tuning it today with broadheads...just in case I can make it out for our late bow season in December...

The bow I couldn't part with is a 60" Bighorn takedown recurve 56@29.  Not much to look at but I'm more confident with it than any bow I've shot.

Bought a longbow off the classifieds here, I was bowless at the time. Made by a prof at Texas A&M who made bows as a hobby. Bamboo limbs with Bacote riser. Smoothest bow I've ever shot.
I have a recurve and a selfbow now but that longbow is like an old friend.

I have Kindred Companion by Mark Wilson. Best of the 42 i own.  Mark can't build them any more because of allegy to the exotic wood dusts.  But he did offer to take her down to 57# because age is forcing me there.  She danged sure wasn't cheap and i wouldn't say she was ugly, not a glamor girl, but talk about an extension of my brain.  Once i decide to shoot an animal she just takes over and i get out my skinning knife.

Definatly my Kodiak Hunter.  It's generic, didn't cost me too much, and shoots like a dream.  Made quite a bit of meat the past couple years and I forsee lots more.

Yes, it's a Tice and Watts 50# 58" Spartan Hunter MkI.  Most people haven't heard of them but they are smooth fast shooters.  This one is nice looking though.

I have a 66" 64LBS. @ 26" Schulz Legend, no one ever believes how it shoots until they shoot it. All of the bows I tillered myself are a copy of its curve and dimensions the difference is very noticeable.  I am shooting lefty mostly these days to preserve an injured joint in my right hand, however, I do still enjoy the odd day of hunting with a true master piece.

Yeah I have 2 Schafers , the first one "ARNOLD "is my go to bow because it just feels right . The other ANGELINA is some serious eye candy . But ARNOLD -as in the ternminator - is my serious deer hunting machine , he has helped me take 8 deer in 3 years !

I'm hunting with "The Stick", a metal riser recurve instead of several much nicer looking custsom wooden bows I also own.

I have a 56" Roger Hollenbeck recurve, 55@27 that I love like no other. All Bocote, clear glass, matte finish - very plain but beautiful. Very much like the Shrew recurve but even more delicate, just a sliver of a bow. But man can it throw an arrow! Smooth, quiet, amazing how much power can be stored in such a small package. Got the bow from Tom Kidwell at ETAR this summer, just jumped at me off the blanket at the swap meet and I will never part with it.

63" Wapiti takedown recurve.  Kinda ugly greenish action wood riser. Tried to sell it a few times but no interest. I put brazos snakeskins on the limbs, I think it looks cool.
Why sell it? I don't know, I always go back to it. Its tough as nails, shoots hard and flat, draws smooth, no noise, hefty meaty riser just like I love, not afraid to scratch it, hell...I CANT scratch the thing! I dropped it once 20 feet to the ground, not a scratch, no twist, nothing. Perfect.I'm keeping it!
