Sooooo, this morning I'm up at 3:30 and on my way, knowing that the season closes in two more days.  I'm also cognizant of the fact that two years ago, almost to the day, (May 30th, 2005), I shot a turkey with the Little Delta bow in the same town I would be hunting in today.  Would the mojo carry over??????

I got to my spot and realized that I had forgotten my camera, something I never go into the woods without......another omen perhaps?

My setup was simple, a DB blind with a single jake about 10 yards out, in a little clearing on a knoll about 100 yards into the woods.  I called sparingly, and about an hour later I was answered by a hen.  I called her and another hen right into my setup, they hung out for about 15 minutes before walking away into the woods.  Then, at 7:15 I called for the last time, with the intention of leaving at 7:30 so that I could get to work.  With my bow on the ground, I was looking at my stuff getting ready to pack it in when I looked up and there was a jake right near my decoy!  I reached for the bow, the bird got antsy and began to leave, as he did I shot him at 11 yards.  I knew I hit him hard, but thought it might have been a tad forward, thankfully I had followed Curt's advice and put a string tracker on my bow this year.  The turkey took off and the string was peeling out, I felt like I wanted to grab it and fight him like a fish, but I resisted and watched the line play out.......

Have to go for a couple, be back in a few......

Sorry guys, my wife needed the computer for a work issue.......where was I......the line finally stops after about 60 yards plays out.  I just sat there for a few minutes waiting for it to move some more, but it didn't.  I figured it might be smart to wait awhile longer, so I packed everything up, left my bow there with the string tracker and brought my stuff to the truck.  I called a friend for help, but he was off fishing and wouldn't answer the phone....

After 35 minutes I was back to where I had shot the turkey, nothing seemed to have moved.  I found my arrow, and realized that with the pass through I would have a double string trail to follow.....the cool part was that one string was white and the other was red, and shone bright whenever it was in the sun.  I started on the trail, and it led right to very thick cover.  I was doing my best to try to look where the string led to try to see the turkey, in one nasty spot I took a step and he exploded at my feet, running off but not very fast.  He WAS hit hard.  I watched as the string continued and then I heard it snap....oh oh.  I followed it to it's end about 20 yards away, and then tried to follow the direction it had been headed.  I found a bunch of feathers where it had run into a tree, and then into a swamp.  I had gone about ten yards into the swamp when I saw the bird in a crumpled heap in front of me....yessss!  I walked up to claim my prize and the SOB got up and ran off again!  This time I was right on him, he stopped 25 yards further into the swamp, with me about six yards from him, this time I took no cahnces and put another arrow into him and ended it.  I could not believe how that bird kept going, he had a hole the size of a sliver dollar in the forward part of his chest and would not give it up, unbeleiveable.  He is a jake that weighed 15 pounds with a thick 4" beard, a true trophy to me.

I have to tell you, without the string tracker I don't know if I would have found this bird, and I'm sure he would have died.....thanks Curt.

After all that my buddy calls and asks what I need....he did come with a camera and took a couple of pics that didn't come out all that well...here is one...

When I got home I took a couple of more with my camera, here is one of the bird and my Kwyk Styk....

There is something to this mojo thing, I had good thoughts thinking back to my LDB hunt and think that the spirits from that bow were helping me out.

Oh yeah, I might hunt just the last few days of May from now on too......  :bigsmyl:
