Warning long read and picture heavy.
There is a fellow tradganger on here who does alot of lerking and learning, but never much posting. Some of you may know him...his name is David Chronister (longbowhntr). David is a dear friend of mine, he is the one who taught me how to build selfbows and we hunt together weekly. He has be traditional hunting for 20 years plus. He has been on a slide as of here lately, has not harvested a deer with a trad bow in 9 years. Well this year was the year of change for that. On Halloween David harvested his first trad deer in 9 years, no where near the biggest buck ever but it was a trophy to him.
And today David official tagged out on bucks for the first time, and with a TRAD BOW. After 9 years of no deer he tags out on bucks.
Me and David were hunting about 130 yards apart, I was in a slough that was logged last year and David was to my south in a pine thicket. About 8:15 I seen this buck come out in the corner and due to cows in the slough the deer headed to David. With my binos up I watched David as the deer neared. I watched David as he drew and reached full draw and hearing the arrow hit its mark. I couldn't have been more exicited. We met at the trail cam and went back to the house for the deer cart and deer dog. We got one of Davids dachshunds (Mickey) to put on his first trail. The blood was light to start and it was hard for the dog to keep focus but after about 20 yards he found better blood and Mickey was on the hunt 50 yards later Mickey led us to Davids second buck of the year!!! I couldn't be more happy for David it has been a long time coming, and best of all I had the best seat in the woods that day!
