Gold Tip Trad Re Fletch
« on: January 10, 2007, 07:25:00 PM »
I have some Traditional Gold tips that were allready fletched. I need to re fletch them, but am worried about ruining the wood grain finish on the arrows with the Acetone that I normally use to remove the old glue. Anybody know if the Acetone will ruin the finish, or is there something else I need to use to remove the old glue?

I never use anything but water to clean up the shaft.  Its hard to not mess up the wood grain thats Why I put wraps on lol or it drives me up the wall

Denatured Alcohol will not harm the finish. You could always test a small area near the insert to see if the Acetone will affect it.

When you do refletch you may want to fletch over cresting wraps. Should you tear up the fletch later, all you have to do is dip it in boiling water and peel it all off.  Throw on another wrap and fletch away.

I use Acetone to wipe off all the writing that Gold Tip puts on the shafts. It has never hurt the woodgrain for me.

I use a pocket knife to scrape off everything I can and clean up with acetone, if you watch how you do it, it wont hurt a thing. hold the knife on a low angle to the shaft.

I've also used acetone to wipe the "labels" off my GT traditionals with no apperant ill effects. After a year and a half the labels started getting gummy/sticky and I think they were actually strarting to grab the shelf.

do they make clear cresting wraps, what kind of wraps do you put on your shafts seems the white ones would look weird, but then again i have never seen on done.

Check out Arrow Wraps Unlimited or the Sponsors Site for some nice wraps.  It is an alternative to dipping and or cresting.

I had Arrow Wraps Unlimited custom make me some that look more like traditional cresting than some you see on the market.

I think they look good with the GT Traditionals and make it easy to strip off everything and refletch the arrow. [/IMG]

Acetone all the way.  Use it on aluminum and carbons and never had a problem other than the labels or peragraphics

Acetone will do funnything to glue even if you leave them a while.  You can make arrow wraps out of contact paper from wally world
