Been through a lot of bows... Keepers, and the rest...
« on: November 26, 2010, 09:42:00 PM »
I've come to a crossroads, some of you may have been here before me and the rest may find yourself right here at some point too.

I've bought, sold, and traded bows for quite a few years.  In my journey I've had just about every bow there is out there.... Literally.  Some of them (the same bow) twice!  I've found what I like, and these are my Keepers...

And I've got several still in the rack that are gonna find their way out of the house... one way or another.  Either sold or donated next year to St. Jude...

Of the "Keepers" I've got another MOAB that Jim just finished that will be here soon, and when I sell some of the Non-Keepers I'll probably get myself another Shawnee A-Riser / E Carbon Foam Dakota limbed longbow and I'll be done.

These two bows fit me perfectly and compliment each other well.  Probably gonna be putting a lot of bows and other stuff up in the classifieds soon... Time to thin the herd/mound of stuff I've got...  Would rather have the $'s to pay for hunting time/trips.

Thanks for listening to my revelation, again...

Saw the pics Larry, sweet looking bow!  If it shoots half as good as it looks you'll be a happy man!

Know whatcha mean,
Been at this for 15+ years and the past 3 years been thru a bunch of bows.I'll get a bow and set it up,shoot it for a couple weeks and really start to like it.Then for grins I pull out the Habu and shoot it.Then I feel bad for wasting my time and money on the other bow.W/ that said.I still have a hankering to give some of the newer bowyers bows a try(Talltines,Stalker, ect)

Jeff,

I hear ya buddy. I am about in the same boat. For me I find that the bow that gets picked to shoot and hunt with is most often my Brack Quest. Got another just about finished and should be shipped after I get back from Texas in Jan. Once it is here, I too will be placing some bows on the classifieds. Will have the two Quests and a new Cari-bow Silver Fox longbow with two sets of limbs and maybe one other bow that will be my keepers, The others will be sold. I have owned every bow out there and these are the ones that fit my style the best, time to just shoot em and let the rest go. But it has been a fun ride owning and shooting all of those bows

Awww, what a shame. You can have one of mine, Jason.

My collection for the most part consists of Fred Bear's recurves, and Thunderstick longbows. I shoot the 'curves playin around in the basement in the winter, and to carp shoot.

The ONLY bow that goes in the woods and mountains with me, along with broadheads, are my MOAB's. Every time. Not that the others arent up to the task, but they are my clean-up hitter. My go to when its all on the line bow.

I like to go to the shows and shoots and look at other bows, admire the woodwork that goes into them, and the creativity of the bowyers. I've shot many of them. But the one that fits me is the MOAB, hands down.

I only have one bow now.  My all Zebrawood with bamboo core Pronghorn 3 PC TD.  It is not the fastest bow out there, but plenty fast, quiet and hits where I am looking.

I sure have gone through a bunch of bows as well over the years. I have always liked the Pronghorns that I have purchased, I have 2 now and do not see them going any where. There is a Big River that is a keeper for sure, and a Centaur that has a permanent home as well.

The others are for sale or trade when the mood hits. I just like bows so much and can not afford to buy and keep them all.

There is also a Bear Kodiak that was given to me by my father 41 years ago that one will always have the top spot on the rack.

I'm down to two my own self. Timberhawk Talon Monarch and a Timberhawk Talon Hunter. Bought the Talon used and liked it so well that I had Scott build me a Hunter model and match the risers and limbs for fit and interchangeability. One is 52.5# and the other is 54#. Same arrows, same feel in the hand and pretty much the same performance. May add one of their longbows at a later date, but for the first time in a long time I am content with what I am shooting!
