There is a distinct difference between moose poop and elk poop. It's the taste.

Hodag poop isn't that big and since they have sharp teeth as evidenced by the sign as you come into town (if I remember correctly, by the car wash), Their scat is usually more like a wolf.
I worked at the scout camp for many summers and saw Hodag poop regularly.
I think maybe it is dog food dropped by a drunken leftover Hodag festival attendee (Hodager).
The track is that of a small horse.
IO would guess Moose or elk, both wouldn't be unbelievable where you are at.

scat looks like elk. track looks like moose.
if there is a flat dimpled area on the pellets then it is elk. moose are like fat footballs with rounded ends.

Compared to all the moose crap Ive seen, it looks a little too round....moose is usually grape shaped....not as round as your pics.

Moose I'd say - Used to throw a ton of it at my cousins on those Canadian fishing trips.

Pumice stones (volcanic rock), probably hurt like %&^#.
The track is old, and looks too big and round for elk.

Moose is bigger and rounder.

I am unfamiliar with the tracks but I remember growing up in Oconto a moose wandered into town, so it wouldn't be unheard of.
