Make Your Own Scent Spray
« on: December 10, 2010, 07:19:00 AM »
After seeing the other thread on scent spray I thouth I would suggest my own that I make. Like to hear  what others use also. Its a lot cheaper and basicly the same incrediants.

32 oz. Hydrogen Peroxide
32 oz. Distilled Water
1/4 Cup Baking Soda
2  oz. of Green Scent Free HS soap
1/2 teaspoon Vannila Extract

Mix slowly. Don't put cap on for three (3) days and store in dark, sunlight will break down the Peroxide. Then bottle up in dark peroxide type bottle or whatever dark type spray bottle.

I posted this before but if you didn't see it here it is again;
1 gal.distilled water, and a double handfull bundle of whatever type of grasses/forbs/leaves you have on the place you plan to hunt.
Bring the water to a boil,turn it off when it starts to roll,place the foliage in and let steep
until mixyure is cool.
Strain and bottle in a spray bottle.Refrigerate.
I generally make this twice in our four month long season.

I have used both and I leave out the vanilla on the first one and I use pine needles in the second one.The one greyghost put up will help eliminate odor with the peroxide and baking soda,and the second one will does well as a cover scent.Together you can't go wrong.

Here is another cover scent that has worked really well for me in the past.I wouldn't spray this on my body because during the rut,bucks are real aggressive towards this stuff.
Gather up a pair of tarsal glands,yeah,those nasty smellin' ones between the back legs on bucks.Road kill works just fine but watch the traffic!I don't use glands from deer taken on the place I hunt,just seems that a foreigner would cause more interest.I just fill a REALLY CLEAN pint jar with distilled or well water,place the glands in,shake and serve!Good luck and be careful.

dcmeckal, That could be very dangerous if you spray it on your body, I would think a drag rag and then hang it.I use the hock pads on a drag and then hang them.I am not about to spray anything on me that a animal with horns is gonna get mad at.JMHO
