I received my 1st issue of the PBS magazine yesterday -- very quick! I'm glad I joined. As dominant an influence bowhunting has been in my life I(after God and Family) I should have joined many years ago. I don't know why it took me so long to do this. I've been with PY for 31 years, Boone & Crockett for nearly 10, and I'm a lifetime member of one of my state's bowhunter orgs.
I think the word "Professional" through me off. Even though I've been a bowhunter since the mid-teens and my career (1st one and current one) are archery-heavy, I never considered myself a "professional" (still don't). I always associated "Pro" with the sponsor logo/patch wearing crowd which isn't my style.
I really like the magazine and have read most of the articles. The moose hunting article was terrific. I was surprised to see Norm Johnson of Blacktail is an "officer" and I liked his article. I had never seen his picture, I thought he was much older than is depicted. One of the councilmen's editorials is very thought-provoking (why so many bows and broadheads have such gruesome monikers). The interview with a well-known bowhunter was also intriguing to me, especially coming from my wildlife agency background. It caused me to wonder what really happened 25 years ago in Ohio? I read the fellow in question's book way back then and learned a lot. But when the controversy occurred I ceased to be a fan-- now I wonder.
I'm wondering about the mid-year meeting and certainly plan to attend Portland in 2012.
