...custom bow, that is! What'd you think I was talkin' about?!
When did you get it? Do you still have it? If not, why?

Green Mountain Longbow, native Cherry Lams, Zebra wood reverse handle riser, custom made for me at 55# @ 30" 62" long. Jim made me that bow in 1996.

I would if I had it! I have a Shrew Classic Hunter being built as I speak. Hoping it will be in my hands next week.
It will be 55#@28" 56" long, with carbon/foam limbs and bowbolt takedown. Maybe Ron or Gregg will post some pics!.....

A Bighorn take-down rucurve that I won in a raffle during a banquet that G. Fred was the speaker. He took my order personally after the meeting.

I bought a Fox High Sierra recurve, LH, 60", 52# @ 28". Made of Shedua, bubinga, and osage (limb belly).
I followed this bow to Pulaski County Kentucky (Classic) and Cloverdale, IN before buying it from the bowyer.
I just traded the bow on November 30th this year. I traded it because I have others I'd rather hunt with. No complaints with the Fox and frankly, I'm not a good trader.

In 1996 my father wanted to get me a college graduation present, so we headed to Screaming Eagle Archery in Kitanning, PA (now out of business). I shot just about every bow they had that was around 55 - 60 lbs. I decided on a Great Plains recurve made out of zebra wood. Still have it and will never get rid of it for a couple reasons: 1) it was a present from my Dad, 2) I got Stacy Groscup's autograph on it, and 3) I shot my first trad deer with it.

I got a Heritage recurve in 1986 (I think). Went to Rocky Miller's shop in Bozeman and he fitted me. Killed a really nice black bear and a couple of deer with it, along with a bunch of grouse and a coyote. It's down the road, and I'm just a longbow guy now. Bought a longbow from Rocky in 1988 and loved them ever since. Mark Baker's son has that longbow now. And right now, I have a Big Jim Thunderchild on order.

My first was an Assenheimer i bought new around 1990 i think. I ordered one at 56#@26" and over bowed myself. I had Don knock off 3 pounds but it was still too much weight to shoot comfortably. I did manage to shoot a few deer with that first custom that i liked a lot. But i had to sell do to obvious reasons. I'm now shooting 10 pounds less.

In 1981 I ordered a one piece Bighorn recurve from Fred Asbell. I still have it for now, been thinking about letting it go to make room for my next custom.

It's neat to hear the experiences/stories that go with these bows and also the sentiment attached to them.

Pronghorn Ferret recurve was my first custom. I still have it along with a dozen more Pronghorn recurves and longbows.
What did you do to me Herb?

Mine was a 3 pc Bighorn. It was too short for me, too heavy for me and the grip didnt fit at all! The owner at the time didnt much care what he sold me and didnt notice I was 6' 2" with a 30" draw. I kept the bow around for a while, but ended up selling it CHEAP. I was nieve at the time and needed help choosing.
