Repairing a fiberglass bow?
« on: December 17, 2010, 06:01:00 PM »
Is there any way to repair a fibreglass one piece recurve (Ben Pearson Strato Jet Target) with a 4 inch long gouge running from the grip area out into the limb. It looks like a tiny strip of glass broke off the corner of the bow, the gouge is only about 3 mm wide and 1.5 deep.

The gouge is out of the corner on the belly side.

I'm wondering if I can just patch it up or is the bow is toast? The guy before me was shooting it like this, but I don't know if I should.

Thanks

Maybe some marine weld( 2- part epoxy for fiberglass) from a hardware store

Here are the pictures. The lighter coloured dull area is where the strip has come off. There also appears to be a light coloured crack in that area.

I'm thinking I could get some repeair resin and a little fibreglass mat, but I don't want to do anything dangerous.

Thanks,

Brandon

I think a little super glue would do the job.

So I've heard lots of replys, and I was just wondering what everyone thinks of sanding out the gouge as much as possible and then using a little repair patch to add some extra strength to that area. Would that make sense? Would I just use a hardware store fibreglass repair kit?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks,

Brandon
