A Piggy Poem For Ashlee, Written By Uncle Ben...
« on: December 17, 2010, 08:51:00 PM »
G'day lads,

I'm busy doing a heap of jobs getting ready to go away to visit family for Christmas, and one of them was to finish writing this poem in a book that my wife and I got for our niece, to send back-and-forth with letters, pictures and silly poems, etcetera. I thought you blokes'd get a laugh out of my attempt at poetry, in honour of one of my favourite animals! Here it is:

Pigs like to snuffle,
And pigs like to dig,
But mostly they just eat,
The lily, clam and fig.

They also like to sleep,
They also like to fight,
They do their sleeping in the day,
And fighting in the night.

Their noses are the best,
Much better than a dog,
Which is why the hunter,
Finds it hard to hunt the hog.

Tiny little piglets,
Huddled in a pack,
Make noises just like ducklings,
A gentle “Quack! Quack! Quack!”

If a dingo’s hungry,
And finds piglet in the grass,
The mother pig will bite him,
Upon his furry _____.

Piggies get the itches,
And roll in mud with glee,
And if that doesn’t work,
They rub against a tree.

Big boar piggies have big teeth,
Big and sharp and strong,
But their tusks cannot protect them,
From their own awful pong!

Black and hairy is the pig,
That’s wild in the bush,
He’s black from squishy snout,
Right back to his hairy tush.

In every land around the world,
The wild pig roams free,
Providing food for many folk,
And cracking sport for me!

How very cool is this? Way!!!! I'm saying....

Your talent for poetry is far superior mine.

I was raised on a farm where the piggies were tame.

I fed them all kinds of stuff, table scraps and even watermelon rind.

When a sow with babes chased after me, mother told me I was to blame.

Mom said that's just the way it was, to them protecting their young wasn't a game.

You see I had fallen from the loft in our old barn.

But the old Landrace sow didn't know that I meant her little piglets no harm.

My mother and dad stood on the porch and laughed with glee.

To watch me crawling as fast as I could flee.

I could hear her gnashing her teeth.

I'd run if I could but couldn't get to my feet.

I had no air with which to scream.

It had been all pushed out when in the fall I hit a beam.

The babes did scatter and squeal and put momma fast on my heals.

The terror was awful but the laughter was worse.

When I heard the guffaws, I was so mad I wanted to curse.

Though tame our piggies might be, get in with her babies and she'll do her best to set you free!!

It might be literary or poetic license for a word that rhymes with strong...lol

Not poetic license, Mudd. "Pong" is Aussie slang for "stink" or "bad smell".

Cool! Ben..Thank you!

Now if I could learn more "Aussie specific" words I'd love to be able to string together a sentence.

Just out of curiosity do you have any idea how the slang word "pong" got it's meaning?
