Been Hold'n Out -- New Super Wildcat
« on: December 22, 2010, 03:45:00 PM »
After learning of Rose Oak Creations from Trad Gang's "Jeremy" I began talking to and then ordered a Super Wildcat from Brandon Stahl at Rose Oak Creations. I ordered the bow in the spring and it arrived the first week of December.

This is my second 1-piece bow. I like the SW because it is, as Brandon admits very much like the Bear Super K, although sooped up quite a bit.

The bow is: LH, 60", marked 52# @ 28" but 47.8# at my 26", Cocobolo and Bocote riser with bocote limb veneers. I don't know that the yellow accent stripe is (Amarillo?).

Brandon fitted the string with his yarn ball silencers. They quiet the bow quite well but I'll probably change them to Cat Whiskers.

I like the bow because it is striking in terms of wood grain -- the Bocote is extremely animated! The cocobolo has nice grain and lots of differences in shades throughout the riser. For a 1-piece bow the bow is heftier than I expected which I like a lot.

Went down to the basement range -- too cold and windy outside.  My shot down here is only 13 yards.  I shot 5 warm-up arrows -- four looked like the picture below but the first one was about 4" high. I shot the 2nd group you see below. I have several bows that shoot like this. The bow is quiet, well-balanced, it seems fast (I have no chrony), and it fits me well.

I wonder how this bow would feel with a checkered grip.  The blacktail and silvertips have caused me to really like the feel of a checkered grip.

It appears the bow likes my Beman MFX Classics: spine 600, 28", 75 grain brass insert and 100 grain field tip. 3, 4" feathers. My brace height is 7.5" (Brandon pre-twisted my string to this measure). The nocking point (top one) is 1/2" above horizontal.

Lovely. The long recurves in Mr. Stahls lineup are already exemplary, but that one is super even for that outfit.

Brandon's bows are works of art - and they shoot great too.  Couldn't be happier with my Super Wildcat.

Nice!
Sending my deposit in for a Super Wildcat. Already have one of Brandon's early King Panthers with pierce points (he doesn't do them anymore).  Going to get my Super Wildcat built to look real close to an original 68/69 Super Kodiak.

See what good things retirement from government employment can bring... LOL

Super looking bow.  Now go forth "young man" and get some meat.

Congrats on a great bow....

Thanks Bruce.  Irony is I couldn't afford these custom bows before I retired -- kids in college, buying service...you know the drill.
