fast flight

can i use a fast flight or other low stretch material on a 74 bear k mag

Not worth the risk. You'll hear guys who have and no problem but it's a risk. I agree with above guys.

I use it (D-97) on my older bear limbs.  I feel the low stretch is easier on the limbs than dacron.  But skinny ff strings have been known to saw off the ends of non reinforced limb tips on older bows.  If you use it, it's very important to pad the loops.  A 12-strand D-97, for example, should be padded to 16 to 18 strands in the loops.  Skinnier materials may require more padding yet.

A definite "no". The old Bear bows weren't designed to shoot a fast flight string.

I would not.  

For the longest time I thought the danger to a non-FF bow was the limbs or limb tips. However, as I'm trying to decide woods on a custom recurve I'm learning from the bowyer that the riser is just as much or more of an issue. On this particular bow I must have Dymonwood in the riser (with or without exotic accents and flares)in order for the warranty to be effective for a FF set-up.

I wouldn't if it was mine,I prefer a endless loop B50 or the newer B55 for my older recurves.

I've went to B50 on all my bows whether they are fast flight or not.  I like it better for the quietness and I'm not worried about the few extra feet per second.

The problem you might run into is not with the tips but with the glues of that era; they were not as good as they are now.
