For those folks that don't hang around the Hunting Knives and Crafters forum, allow me to introduce Clarence Smitherman (aka skullworks) to you. I've admired his work for quite sometime. When he posted pics of a rework job on an old Buck 110 folder, I was so impressed that I had to see if he could do some work on my old Case XX P172 10 dot Buffalo folder. As you can see below, the factory scales were cracked, bolsters were stained and ugly and the blade needed some TLC.
So, I sent him the above pics and he agreed to work on the knife. We talked about the kind of new scales and I mentioned that I had seen factory stag on some of the Case P172's and thought that would look nice. Clarence said he had some stag laying around and would see if it might work. Well, I received the knife back this afternoon and I thought I'd share a few pics of Clarence's work. Very little work was done on the blade to preserve the original patina of the 30 year old carbon blade.
If you haven't done it before, check out his and the other crafter's work. Thanks again "skully"!!
