Went out this evening and hunted about 15 yds off a main trail the deer are using to dig up acorns.First time hunting on the ground in the snow.I set up down in where 3 or 4 logs are laying crisscrossed, made some nice cover.About 4 I see a deer about 75 yards wandering off.then about 4:30 here they come,7 deer, coming right down the trail, the first 2 pass, they are fawns, the next 1 is large doe.I pick a spot and follow her steps...1 more and her head is behind a tree and I draw my recurve.....about 4 deer sprint in 4 different directions. The other 2 behind her busted me drawing and just bolted and so did my deer, gone just like that.Wow was that exciting, can't believe they didn't even pause for a second when they caught me.Almost had my first trad deer...It is making me even more determined.I will get there!

When you get that first one. .  sit for a minute and think about what you just did.  Revel in the moment, that you actually did what it took to put your own meat on the table, the hard way.

It'll happen

Nice to get so close. Not surprised at the reaction though. Those deer have been through most of the various deer hunting seasons by now. Also, that many eyes around, better off picking the last deer in the group.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

I can tell you from personal experience that any animal that gets shot at even once becomes more alert to it's surroundings, very wary and jumpy for a very long time afterward..lol

Sometimes when it dont happen its about as exciting as when it does.Just think though,if we killed 1 ever time we went it would not be as much fun.

Yeah, probably should have waited for the last one,but every trip I learn and I go over each trip and say should have done this,or that. What a rush on the ground though.I will be ground hunting more as the situation calls for it.I need to find a better seat for it thats for sure.It was a great hunt.

Hahahaha!!!! I am so stupid sometimes...lol

I had the title of your thread meaning delete until just this very moment.

I sent you a pm with some opinions on hunting seats that work for me.

I love it when we can get "close" to the critters we're hunting...lol

God bless

PS" Pappy always said, "There's no point in being stupid iffen you don't show it!"...lol
