Tag Soup
« on: December 31, 2010, 05:45:00 PM »
Its the end of the season here in CT. I had some good hunts, missed a shot at a giant buck, and generally had a great time...but have no venison in the freezer.

So, who'll join me in a bowl of tag soup?

I got 15 days left and the pot is simmering. Hopefully it wont come to a boil and I have to eat it.

Another year with an empty freezer for me also. But, I had a great time hunting and got some great memories that will last longer than the meat would have. Seen deer every time I went out except one.

tag soup it is!

Nice pict!  I'll have to fix a bowl myself.

I seem to have grown fond of the ole simmered tags. I guess they taste better when you have a buddies son that has given me few deer past couple years.

Mine is bitter this year. My brother keeps reminding me of my lack of freezer success but I had a bunch of fun. I guess we are going to wallpaper a wall in our cabin with leftovet tags. I might get a whole room by myself!

I'm in the same boat, I seen a lot of deer & had some really close but either to risky to make a bad shot or had no chance at a shot is my story but like y-all I had a great time each time I was in the woods, just wasn't the time to bring one home I guess.

The property we hunt has an 8 points or better rule.  Would'nt you know the only shot opportunities I had were on on a 6 point and a forkhorn.  :dunno:

I can't take credit for the pic folks as I found it on the web. I blew my chance at nice doe when I got in a hurry to get up a hill on this logging road I was walking on. I was headed in to this area I know, and when I got to the top and rounded the corner, she was just standing right there in the road maybe 10yds away. Couldn't do anything but have a stare down and then she just casually turned and bounded down this draw. I backed down the hill and tried to circle around and catch her when she came out at the bottom but, never did see her again.

I ain't done yet. But tag soup is not all that bad. Been a tough season but fun. Passed up some nice bucks but thats my choosing. If they can hold their horns for a while longer then just maybe.

Tags with freezer burns are the worst.  Still trying to swallow last two year's tags.  Freezer is now brimming with my 2010 tag added.
3 years of just seeing the girls.  Not sure why the boys don't show up to the party.
Hope to get a different unit this year!!!

Well i was in ur shoes last year n the yr be, n the 1 bf that.  I went 3 years from my first trad kill to killin another deer with trad gear.  The past 3 season trad only had alot of close calls, missed shots, a fe lost deer and alot of heartbreak.  I stepped it up n high gear a week after last yrs season ended.  Read all the books i could, thirsted for knoledge, scouted more in 1 yr than my entire life b4.  Perfected my set up as best i could.  shot all yr long and scored a few more propertys to hunt.  This yr i filled all my tags.  Its been the best yr ever n was all trad.  I was in yalls shoes last yr, really hate it for ya.

I'll have to belly up to a big bowl myself. Had a great season, seen alot off deer. Seen more buck activity this year than I have for a while. Had some very close calls in early season. Couple shot's I passed up due to warm weather and 15 min till dark. Can't complain, it's all good!! Jason

If I had to buy tags, I'd be getting ready to eat them.  Thankfully, I hunt on my Dad's property so no tags are required.  I still have a couple of weeks left but after last weekend, it's not looking good.  I passed on a lot of deer this year though so it's my own fault.  I still had fun.  no complaints.
