Went and shot with my compound buddy
« on: December 31, 2010, 08:20:00 PM »
Hung with him out to 20 yards doing pretty well matching his shots, missed twice at 35 but managed to stick the target the rest, and he missed once, and pin -wheeled the rest...felt pretty proud of my self this pm

I have a friend like that. The latest and the greatest is what he needs.

The next new gimmick will be the one. He thinks I`m nuts for hunting with something that actually limits my effective range.

Don`t think for a second that he doesn`t notice how you enjoy the simple way.

Love a good day shooting with the wheelies.  Even better when you match em.

this year at the colo jamboree a group 6 wheelie guys were ahead of me (very slow) and suggested that I could shoot through.  I accepted, took my Black widow long bow and stepped up to the compound shooting peg,  that they had just shot from.  One of them said,  "oh, you can move forward if you want too, it's OK."  I said,  "No, this will be fine", and shot the 35 yard shot at the javalina and putting my arrow in middle of the their group.  As I walked away I heard one of them saying,  "How did he do that?"

My best friend and hunting partner uses one of those bows and we still have the best time together it also make me shoot better and smile when I shoot just as good as he dose out to 50 yards.

I still have an old compound I can shoot as good at 60 as my Centaur at 25. I'm learning and having fun. Only used the longbow this season. The best is that my son is shooting recurve barebow for 4H this year and is better than me! Lots of kids and parents just stare.

I went to the last whittingham in North Jersey this past season with a new friend from work who gap shoots at distant targets. I started warming up on the 10-15 yd. targets, he starts on the 50yd. 3-D target and nails every single shot in the vital area. He then goes to the 70 and 80 yd targets and nails them, I'm talking right off. Only guy that could stay with him was one old timer shooting a wheely with fingers and no sights, both pretty impressive.

I do pretty well against my friends if they don't know the distance and can't use their range finders, which totally befuddles them, good laughs though.

Going to try to shoot with mine today.  I'm bringing two longbows.  Hope to have him try the longbow at the indoor range.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

thats awsome.  im seperating myself more and more from my compound everyday. i just get alot more joy out of shooting my recurve then the compound. just to much technology and easy to shoot out to 40 yds. with trad it just seems like more of a challenge and brings back the fun in archery.  cant wait for my new bow to get finished and in my hands.
