Lost,

That guy has some daggers on him doesn't he?  Jeez. what are you feeding him? Buckets of soybeans or something? He's a boy that gets a lot of protein and minerals.

For the last two years that I've had a trail camera, I don't think I've seen any photos where a deer has really cared about it being there or paid any attention to it.  The bear was curious, but not the deers.

I find it funny to see a doe being curious about it. I don't know if she smelled my scent on it and investigated or if it just looked weird to her. Will never know.

A little closer inspection

I see quite a few cameras are set on mineral licks.  I would like to do that for the off season.  What has everyone found to be the best attractor and hopefully most beneficial for the deer?

I have found the best is Tropy Rock and Deer Cane liquid is a close second to work best in Iowa. "The Coonster" is 4 1/2 years old and I've only seen him once in the daylight.

This is the biggest deer I've ever seen in the woods while hunting near my cabin.  I had him under my stand at 15 yards on Friday but couldn't get a clear shot/angle on him.  I'll take it as a good sign that I even saw him, every pick of him I have on the trail cam is at night.

It's like they know and are just toying with me.

A buck I named "Contender" only because he was never the biggest buck I'd get a picture of in this area.

Same area roamed by the buck called "Lucky". Haven't gotten "Lucky's" picture yet this year, but if he's still around, I believe he'll have his hands full with this guy.

Keep in mind, I've never laid eyes on this buck in the 3 yrs. I've gotten these pix and hunted the area...

In 2009 as a 2.5yr. old...
•

Then last year as a 3.5yr. old...in velvet...
•

Last year again in October...
•

Now just last week(month on camera is off by one month) as a tank 4.5yr old!
•
•
•

I'd set this camera last Wed. in the rain, after getting rained out at work. I found some rubs, then a giant rub. I set the cam, then left.

Yesterday morning I hunted the spot(the tree I climbed is actually in the backround of the pic).I have a stand set about 70yds. away, but yesterday used my climber..didn't see a thing.

So I got down and switched cards in the cam, and got home to find those last 3 pix!

Nice whities you guys are getting pics of. The blackies out here are still pretty nocturnal, hopefully that changes soon.  A few short videos I thought I'd share. (Click on the pic for the video)

I set up my game camera to see what was passing my stand, not realizing that I had the top of the stand in the picture, too. This fellow came along about an hour after I got in the stand. Look closely and you can see my recurve. I had just changed the card in the camera, and he smelled me. He was looking for me, but didn't see me.

The dates are wrong on these pics. I changed the batterys and never brought the attachment to reset anything. I put the camera out late Sept 2011.

these 3 came in on the same night I think ... same stand, which is in the tree this camtracker is in   ;)
