CE Heritage.. I have questions
« on: January 01, 2011, 12:19:00 PM »
OK...  I have been shooting AD's for a good bit.  Have a new bow on order and just for grins would like to try these Heritage shafts.

The bow is a Widow LB.. 45# @ 28" 64 tip to tip.  I draw 28" dead nut and would like to work with about a 29.5" shaft.  BH's with adaptors are 162 grns, I like 5" to 5.5" fletch but that could be changed.  I would like to come in about 10gn/lb or just a tad lower (9.5 or so) and still keep FOC

I have been to their site and if I go with spine based on my AD's I am looking at the 350's.  That just seems a bit much for a 45# bow.  I would be starting out with a 354 gn bare shaft.

What are your thoughts? What shaft size should I look at?????

Thanks

The 150's work well out bows in the low 50's. Since your not putting a ton of weight up front you could probably get away with a Heritage 90. They run around 9 gpi I think.

I can tell you for shure you dont want the 350's.

Thanks Eric.  I was leaning that way.

My idea here is to go to a slightly smaller diam. shaft to move it closer to center.  The Widow PL, as you likely know, is cut to center.

I have tried every carbon out the and the cx150's is the only thing I could get to shoot to my likeing. My bow is a Bob Lee TD longbow 60" and 45#@28".I draw to 29" and the cx 150's are cut to 30 1/2 and 125gr points.I have them bareshfting a touch weak and nock high. When I fletched the they fly great.I think they are the toughest arrows I have ever shot.

Big Jim has the best prices that I have found for these.

I have a BW 46# PMA and shoot 150's 30" long with a 100 grain brass incert and a 150 grain point. They fly like darts and hit very hard.

One of my longbows, which scales #50, at my draw length of 27", shoots 150s, std insert, 200 gr. broadhead, @ 29". However, it weighs in right at 525-530 grains total arrow weight. 150s weight 10 gr./ in.

I've found these shafts very durable, but even the 150's are quite stiff. For my 45-50 lb bows, I need to leave them at least 30" long for 150 gr up front, or brass inserts if going shorter for total or 250 up front.

Thanks SK... someone told me they were stiff.  I think I could get around that with a good bit of tinkering.... front end load etc...

The 150's will work well for you Bruce. You will not have to tinker much at all. Leave them full length, put the head you want on the end and bareshaft. Hopefully they will be weak as they should be and you can trim 1-2" off and wind up with an arrow right at 30" or close to it which should work well for your draw. Be careful trimming, carbon respnds to length much faster than adding or subtracting point weight. I start out trimming 1/2" at a time and as I get close I trim 1/4 " at a time. Since it is bareshaft I trim by slipping out the nock and cutting it off the nock end. I keep that bareshaft for shooting with my fletched arrows afterwards as a tune checker..... mainly to check the tuning of the monkey pulling the string ! If your brace height, nock point and yourself are all in tune then you should be able to get good flight out of the bareshaft on any given day and it should fly right in the group of fletched shafts. I am shooting more woodies these days cause I like spending time with Mason building them. When I do shoot carbon it is nothing but Carbon Express Heritage 150 and 250's. Great shafts, extremely tough and consistent. JMHO

Almost forgot Bruce..... Leave them slightly weak as the feathers will stiffen them slightly. I am a lefty so I want them tailing ever so slightly nock right which would be nock left for you. I shoot them over and over and I want them either straight in the target or slightly tail right. Out of ten shots I like to see about half and half which tell me I am ever so slightly weak. Bareshaft shooting during regular practice is a very humbling experience !!! It will show every flaw in your form. When you think your shooting is awesome and you get to feeling a little cocky just shoot a bareshaft with every round and it will put your feet back on the ground.

Myself and 2 friends are using the Heritage 90's out of our bows that are in the 45-48 lb range and are 29-30" long with 145 pts. They shoot extemely well out of these BW PLX and Morrison longbows.

I shoot both 90's and 150's and I shoot a 45@28 widow..

Heritage 90, with 125-150gr point,,,, I'm not sure if 90's come more than 29"  because I shoot 29" total length..    my finished weight for this setup is 462gr with a 150gr point & 3 4" shields..

if the 90's don't come longer than 29" the 150's with a setup that should bareshaft pretty good out of your widow, is going to be at least 520-540gr total.

Jimmy:

I got the "trimmin" thing down to a science.. (I think) With these things I can trim from the back unlike my AD's

Dogg and Tajue:  Thanks, I was hoping to hear from some widow shooters as widows are a slightly different kind of cat on arrows...

I guess I should try both the 90's and the 150's. The 90's cut to 29.5 with the weight of my broadhead (162 with adaptor) should be good.  The 150's cut to 29.5 might need a bit of added front end weight (either brass insert or steel BH adaptor) as I want the shaft to be the same length.

Your 462 gr. weight should also show a good bit of FOC... right?  That, if so, is just about on the money for me.  That should give ME 9.76 gn/lb with my BH (and good FOC) which is about dead nut what I have on all my set ups...

Tajue, the 90's come in at 30 1/4 stock length so I should be good.

Thanks

I think you will really like the CX Heritage shafts Bruce. I have been shooting them for several years and they are very tough.
