The rock is permeable lime stone.  Its under and obviously on top of that entire country.

A couple more pics, this is the main creek which flows through the ranch. The water is spring fed and crystal clear.

And a happy camper with his buck....

Curt and Izzy, you guys could be brothers!

Those are some nicely shaped heads you got there! I'd shave all my hair off too if I could look that good!  :)

Awesome...one of these days I am going on this trip.  I live in Fort Worth so the drive would be easy...would just have to explain to Mom why I cant stay with her in Temple.

My 1st afternoon was almost a repeat of a couple of years ago....and Ten Pointer the 1st evening.

That Ten Pointer was mounted by Curt, and I received it a week before we left completing my 'Solana Bookend Tens'.....

Yep, this dandy buck came in, a straight up perfect 10 point, he was a beaut of a buck....He waded in amongst the 6 point that had ran it just after David left me, and the two doe and button head.

Came in like he owned the place from out front to my right...he hooked around and immediately began feeding straight to me....this was going to be too easy....

He fed himself right into range.  All I was waiting for was him to turn...and a step closer he came, and another step, and another....

Then they all blew out of there as 2 big red boar hogs came piling in.  Preparing for a shot on them, a 3rd piled in....almost.  He got wind of something and backed out and began to grunt the others out of there as well.

All this took place in about 20 seconds....that would be the 1st and only shooter buck I'd have in range, and the last hogs I would see while on stand.

Although I didn't take anything single handed, I, along with a special bow I was hunting with, would have 'the final say' for a couple of wild hogs in a heated up close a very personal battle amongst our group.  And this provided some of the most fun I've ever had at the ranch.  It was really exiting, exhilarating, challenging, and suspenseful.....what a RUSH!!!

The 1st hog fight was worth the price of the hunt alone....and the second one was even wilder!!!  I'm sure you will enjoy those stories as they come in.

Here's a few pics of my 1st stand.....

That first evening sit involved some hog action, but none where brought back to camp. A couple others had some hog action as well, but I'll let them tell of their hunts.

It was a good start though. And I was so glad to be hunting Solana again. I just knew better hunts were yet to come.

A great dinner back at camp was waiting for us.

I don't want to get ahead of the others in my group, so I'll hold up a bit and download some videos in preperation for the next mornings hunt....
