No need to get impatient....its going to take a week to unfold at least.

Folk were gone a week, and they need to get settled, caught up, and hug their family a bit....so please bear with us.

Made it home yesterday afternoon had a smooth flight with no delays. Will run my camera down to Wally world today to get film develop. I know I’m old fashion and need to catch up with the times and get a digital one, so it might be a day or so before I post any picture. But I will say I will be having a new avatar......stabow

Sharptop really took a liking to the little Jack Russell Terrier tracking dog there named Stubby. He offered to trade that Kanati for the dog. David paused a little then said "I hate to but I think I can make that trade."  Funny part was later Sharptop found out it wasn't even Davids dog.         It was his brother John's dog. Gotta watch those Shepard boys.    :nono:

Two really good fellas Larry Surtees and Skyler Wilson. Acouple of close buds right there and this pic captured a lot of the spirit of this hunt.

The tracking dogs were invaluable and amazing. As you may already know these deer are wired and often times they end up not being where they were by the time your arrow gets there. I would venture to say that only 30 percent of the deer shot this week were hit below the midline. Lots of ducking going on.

The first night I had an opportunity at a nice doe and aimed 3" under her only to end up hitting her high and back with no exit as she ducked and spun. I deceided not to push her that night and the next day we returned to look for her. I had seen her run about 60 yards before losing sight of her. We found just a few specks of blood and put Stubby on her trail. Less than 10 minutes later he had covered the remaining 70yds and there was a happy reunion.

This old gal came in the first night but I gave her a pass so I could just soak it all in.The first night on stand I saw more deer than I saw all season in NY.The next morning I was feeling comfortable and after waiting for what seemed like an hour she quartered away from me and I let a Silver Flame go.I aimed about 5 inches under her and still hit about 10 inches up from the brisket line.A broadside deer in Texas is no guarantee. At the shot she did a leap and a complete barrel roll with her belly facing to the sky.She ran a 100 yard loop and expired just out of sight in a small draw.

Please allow folks that killed animals to tell their story before you post pics of their kills.

Thanks.
