After lunch Saturday we had a Memorial Service for Chris at a very scenic place at the ranch. A grassy plateau overlooking Solana Creek and a view of the bluff on the other side.
Center Piece of Ceremony - Both of Chris' bows that were used during the hunt, and a picture of Chris.
I am holding one arrow of many. Each arrow was made from Chris' 'supply'....shafts, nocks, feathers etc. Don and Skyler made an arrow for every hunter there and they were all inscribed 'In Memory of Chris Surtees'.
There were 3 arrows presented to Larry. One was from Jack Guard who had a special Chris Surtees arrow wrap design, which he showed earlier in a pic, and every hunter there had signed it. The second arrow was one from Curt Cabrera from the deer he killed in Honor of Chris. And the 3rd was the 1st arrow I shot out of Chris' Kwik Styk into the hog in the first fire fight.

TGMM members pitched in to purchase the Shrew offered by Ron LaClair and Gregg Coffee on the auction for Chris to give to Larry. It also was inscribed 'In Memory of Chris Surtees'.

Larry talking about Chris as he prepared to spread some of his ashes on this scenic ground.
Chris,
Thanks for joining us all on this hunt, in more ways than one.

There is no question Chris is was there.
I told some non-hunting friends about the auctions, all the kills and adventures his bows went on and the Buck that Jack, his stand-in took, and they were visibly choked up.
I had the honor of spending the next 4 days with Larry on another hunt. I used Chris's bow on that hunt and while I never had a shot opportunity Larry and I did some stump shooting and I have never shot so well as I did with his Hi-Breed even though it was the heaviest bow I had ever shot and was using arrows tuned to another bow.
Thanks Chris for a great hunt!

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

Awesome Amen!
My tears help wash away the pain, the shared love helps the healing.
God in His timing will handle the rest.
I love you guys and thank God for you!
With the love of Christ

What a roller coaster.
All that adrenaline with each story and recovery, and then, such a different "high" in remembering Chris and seeing the depth of emotion by other wise macho guys who go toe to hog snout& cutters with knives and bows.
Seeing the emotion well up on Larry's face got me. I lost it right here at work.
As Mudd said, may it be that the tears wash away some of the shared pain for the Surtees family and us... and the healing begin.

I am right there with Mudd and Doc, my wife just asked me what in the world was wrong with me, then I showed her this and she too joined me. What a great honor and memorial to Chris, I sure wish I could have been there. Just an amazing thread I can't leave alone !!!
