As he started to walk again, I started to draw "Cy" and squatted low enough to see his body.

I looked at his lower body line, right behind his front leg, and released...

Now sometimes, when in this situation, it seems as though thing are happening in slow motion...not so in Texas!

In a blurr of motion, I saw deer and arrow come together and heard a familiar "thud".  The sound of a big 160 Snuffer slipping through ribs!

I was pretty sure that it looked like it hit him about  perfect...but like I said, it was a blurr....

He took off like a rocket, and at about 40yds. he stopped and looked back...his near side chest was red!

After a couple seconds he started to faulter and took off again as his rear end was going.

He ran crashing though everything in his path sending prickly pear flying in every direction as he fled!

He fought till the end to stay up but eventually I lost sight of him as he crashed into a clump of thorny vines...then all was quiet...he was dead only 60yds from me!

I hung my bow up and the next thing I did was try, with very shakey hands, to send a text to my "group". As anyone who's ever tried to do this at a time like this, knows it's not easy!

I was shaking so bad it took me a couple tries to get it right!  I hit send and collapsed back into my chair!

After a few minutes to settle down I grabbed my camera...

Awesome Curt, didn't get a chance to hear the story with the short time Sunday.  Congrats again!

Then the serenade started. This video does no justice to just how loud this cow was bellowing!

Don, Sky, Michael, and Ol' Shep sent their congrats(Terry had forgotten his phone in camp).

I knew David had to get Michael early to catch his plane, so I asked if he'd come get me....I needed to get down! But I also needed my extra camera battery that was back in camp.

David dropped Michael off and when I saw him coming a while later I started to pack up my gear and by the time he drove up below me, I was on my way down...

David and I just had to go see him! He was almost as excited as I was!

I didn't touch anything, just took some pix as we walked...

•

This is why I shoot Snuffer 160's...
•

•

Evidence of what I described earlier...
•

•

•

•

I slowly walked up to him, touched him, gave thanks again, and backed out.

We headed for camp for my battery...

Back at camp Michael was busy packing. I wished him a safe journey home, and then it was back out.  It was about time to start picking up the others.

Then we'd all go back and do it all over again. My only regret was that Michael wasn't there to share it all with...

That was my only regret as well my Brother.
The old order is passing. Swiftly receding into memory are the days of strong, earnest men who followed an atavistic yearning to pit their skills against wild animals.

Yeah....we missed Michael on that recovery for sure.

Yep....deer aren't hard to blow through with big chop heads......and they sure lay down a track to your prize.  This is the best blood trail I've ever seen on TX terrain.

And you need to have a fast arrow to arrive before the animal is in the next county.

Great job of aiming baseline and letting the buck
'run the script' Curt.....its hard to do, but works many more times than not as you found out two years ago.

Keep it coming!!!!

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!! I went to my hunting lease on Mon and did not have internet. I got home today to find 14 more pages of awesomeness! It sounds like, as has been stated many times above, that Chris was there in theat group with all of you.

Great buck Jack!

Still waiting to see a good pic of yours Curt but congrats to you also.

I'll be waiting anxiously for the rest of the stories.

We went to get Don first, then Sky. Here's Skyler gettin' out of his tree...

•

Don had hunted this stand earlier and was showing me where a nice 8pt had come in. But not "in" enough...
•

Quite a team...
•

Then we went to get Terry and fill him in on what had happened. Remember, he'd forgotten his phone...
•
•

Then it was back to "The Killing Tree". Looking up...
•

Close up of the stand...
•

This arrow would have a new home soon...
•

Video to follow...
