Chastain Wapiti Pics
« on: January 05, 2011, 06:58:00 AM »
Thinking of giving my Wapiti as a gift to a family member. It's a shooter for sure and I love the looks of it.
That being said I of course I will need a replacement.

I'd like to see what some of you have as far as riser woods...just to give me an idea as to what I want. Right now I have no idea.

Thaks
Robert

Very nice looking bow. I really like the slimness of the grip!

Is the riser Shedua and Maple?

Sorry Robert I am not much help mine is just one of his camo versions. Yours is about as good looking as I have seen from Keith. Rocky Mountain Speciality ( sponser) has quite a few photos, as well as J.K. Chastain on his site, & I bet you already knew that. Great shooting bows good luck, Jerry.

I think I own the ugliest Chastain out there, but MAN do I like it!!!! Its just a grayish green riser.
I can't hurt the thing, I've even dropped it out of a treestand...landed on bottom limb and bounced 5 feet in the air. I got down, not even a twist. Shot it...like nothing happened. I've been shooting it over my fancy Silvertips,Robertsons lately. Not afraid to scratch it.

Rocky Mountain Specialty Gear (a Sponsor) has several in stock. They have pics on their website of most of them.

Good Luck,
Kyle

Bowwild...Riser is Wenge and I think Osage. The third wood is a mystery to me, maybe shedua.

Don't know but would guess cocobolo with a bubinga flare. It is on rmsgear.com, in the LH section. They might know the woods?

The pictures below are of a bow owned by Trad Gang's Billy Shipp.  It is a beauty!

Here is mine...it's an older model.  It's the original dovetail take-down system (Wapiti Chastain Custom TD SL).  Got lots of battle scars, but still shoots well for me.

Ibehiking,
I really like that bottom bow too! I went to the site you mentioned and saw that it is a  64" bow. Phooey.  At my 26" draw those recurve limb tips probably won't have started to budge -- I couldn't stand the thought of looking up to the bow like I have to look up to everyone and everything else!

What is the idea behind the design of the Chastain limb??    It's kind of odd looking and a bit of a departure from a typical limb
