Ron, that is awesome to say the least! Young folks today could learn a thing or two from you and your wife. Thank you for sharing your pics.

I was looking into some buckskins yesterday and man were they expensive!   :scared:  Someday maybe...

If you save your own hides and have them tanned then do your own work, it can be done fairly reasonable. I had a girl friend back in the early 90's that is Native American and had all of my deer hides tanned for her out in Sherwood, OR. Her mother used to brain tan hides, but it took a long time and was a nasty job.

The tanning was cheap back then, but I think it has increased dramatically.

My old buckskins, pants and shirt are still in very good condition. I haven't worn them in awhile....well because they seem to be a bit tight..   :o   I haven't sold them because I'm hoping someday to be able to fit into them again...

Ron, here in Oregon where it rains a lot, what would be a good treatment to keep the life expectancy longer?

Anyone can do their own brain tanning. It's not mentally challenging but sure is labor intensive.

If I can do it then I am positive that anybody can.

Go for it!!!

God bless, Mudd
