My new Big Jim Thunderchild
« on: January 07, 2011, 05:42:00 PM »
Spent a week in the Georgia swamps and took a trip to Big Jim's place. The Big man treats you like an old friend. Customer Service is top notch and builds one of the best looking and shooting bows I seen and shot.

I picked up an amazing bow from him. This 56" baby is smooth and as accurate as bows 8-10" longer. I couldn't believe how well it shot for me at 30". It's his T/D Thunderchild. The riser is Gaboon ebony and Koa wood. Limbs are bamboo core with Koa veneers back in belly, with Springbok horn limb tips. Specs are 56", 46# @ 28" and about 51# at my draw.

Below are some pics of the bow and of Big Jim whipping me up an extra string.

Mike

Mike, you did good  :)  Hang on to that one, it's a beauty for sure. The important question is how did you do on the hogs?

Ah yes, one more down, which puts my TC that much closer to being built. They are really beautiful bows!

Beautiful Bow!  Very high on my "want" list.  Even nicer picking it up in person and I'm sure visiting with Jim.

I saw Big Jim's bows at ATAR last year. They have been stuck in my mind since then. I sent an email this week about lead times. I'm going to call and get one in the works next week!

The great lines of the TC alone, lends itself
to be extremely attractive with nearly any color or combination. Adding in the eye for matching beautiful combinations and the highly skilled craftsmanship ends up captivating me each time I view a new TC.

Congrats! She sure is a beauty.

While you were there did you get a peek at Jim's "Magic" woodshed? Rumors abound of sightings of Wood Elves and such hangin' around. Closest we have to an actual confirmation is Jim slipping a few times and calling his limb cores "Magic", and of course how they shoot.   :dunno:
