treestand help?
« on: June 04, 2007, 09:17:00 PM »
I'm looking to buy a new stand this year and don't know what to buy . I'm wanting something that is simple, fast, quiet, lite, comfortable,a sleek profile that dosen't make feel stuck out while in a tree, and rock solid while climbing and sitting.I'm looking at a Lone Wolf or a Summit openshot but still open for any suggestions. I just need help trying to find the perfect stand. Is that possible?????

I am absolutely sold on the Chippewa Wedge-Lock. Easy, sturdy, stable.

I dont own an OpenShot so I can't help there. It is a good looking stand though. I have the Lone Wolf and its a very good one. Its not the easiest to climb or the most comfortable, but its solid, light, and packs down to a small package. I don't think the perfect stand exists, but the LW is a good climber if portability is important.

the lone wolf Fits trees 6” – 19” in diameter and they make a longer belt that will work up to 22". i have a lone wolf, summit and a API. all 3 are good stands, but for packing i like lone wolf. to me the lone wolf is the quietest climber. if you are going to be sitting all day the API and Summit would serve you better IMO. the lone wolf is great for half day hunts but after about 3-4 hours it starts getting a little uncomfortable. i've heard a lot of great things about the Chippewa Wedge-Lock but have not had the opportunity to use one.

The LW alpha climber falls well into the sleek and light.  Likely the most sleek and light going...climber or fixed.

sleek and light describes the Lone Wolf climber I have the climber and LOVE IT! (as far as a climber goes)

past that I use old LOC ON LEM hang stands, w/the rope it is quiet and easy to put up. It is the one hang on I will go into and area before daylight and put up and hunt, I can put it up that quiet.

I have had a Summit Open Shot for a couple of years.  At just over 14 lbs., it is light weight. It is also solid in the tree and quiet to climb with.  I wish it folded flat for carrying like a LW does, but it doesn't.  All in all, I really like the Open Shot.

LW without a doubt, if a climber is what ya want. They are quiet and light weight and pack better than any climber out there. Shawn

I would agree with the lone wolf. I use the sit and climb. Most stable in the tree and very quiet goin up. You get what ya pay for. Other climbers have slipped on me in foul wheather conditions. I feel very secure with the lonewolf.

Daniel,

Check out the cougar claw cub prowler,  www.cougarclawusa.com   if you are leaning toward a climber.  It packs great and is lighter than most climbers and will be alot more comfortable sitting and climbing than the lone wolf.  The prowler is an open front stand that still allows the sit down stand up method.  The cable is more rigid and it will climb a big tree.  Also, it doesn't tilt down (like the Summit and lone wolf does) as you go higher.

I have owned the summit and a lone wolf climber and did not like either of them.  I do, however, own a lone wolf loc on and a set of climbing sticks and if a loc on is what you want, they would be hard to beat.

I don't want to start anything about what is better, but I do want to tell the truth.  I think folks should know the pros and cons.  I'll be the con on this one.

Andy

p.s.  Cougar Claw stands are made in Foley, AL.  So if you happen to be going to the beach, stop by and see them.
