I've always used POC. But last year I tried some arrows made with Hildebrand sitka spruce and loved them. The Hildebrand sitkas are now my shaft of choice.

I've a few doz. Forgewoods left that I'm almost reluctant to part with (shoot)! Heavy & tough & best wood shaft ever IMO

Footed Surewood Douglas Fir shafts with Bubinga and Magnus Journeyman Broadheads.

Anything that is straight grained (will stay straight) and weighs 400+ grain (raw shaft).

When I did shoot wood...it was barrel tapered ash.

I got to go to the Surewood Shafts facility yesterday. It just reinforced in my mind their dedication to making the best shafts in the industry. Very impressive.

Laminated Birch--heavy-great penetration, stay straight, very hard so dents & dings are not a problem, break one, go ahead and try.

I love the weight that ash provides however I've found that normally you"ll only get about 75% of the dowels have good straight grain.

I shoot 3D only. I used to use POC, but I turned over to Hildebrand Sitka Spruce.Very strong, consistent and straight.

Dogwood, because it gives the mass necessary for good penetration when using stone points.

I've shot good quality POC for a long time, and it's still my favorite.  Doug fir is a close second.  A little heavier and stronger.  In the hardwoods, I like birch or for really heavy arrows, hickory.  Good quality ramin is hard for me to find, but it also makes a very nice mid-weight, tough arrow.

I like the hex shafts.  They have a great selection of sizes, mass weights, spine, and they offer all services that you may need.  The arrows run very true and you never have to worry about grain runout.  They are a quality product at a fair price.
