Bob Lee pics and experiences please!
« on: January 15, 2011, 04:37:00 AM »
Hi!
Im thinking about buying a Bob Lee Classic Model
Takedown Recurve AMO 64" in the 55# area.

If some of my fellow tradgangers have some opinion on smoothness, speed etc for this bow I sure would appreciate to read about that!

Pics would be great.

Thanks

Margly

I have had a few bob lee signature recurves over the years great shooting bows, very smooth and no stacking, speed was good with the one i did shoot through a chrony it shot 178 and that was with my 27 draw length and 53lbs, was shooting a 29inch 2018 with a 125 head and 60 grains of weight added to the back of the insert and 5 inch shield cut feathers, now i have a bicentennial elite longbow.

I've owned several combinations of Lee risers and limbs and the 64" recurve limbs on the standard length riser is probably my favorite.

They are all good shooter - good speed, "easy" to shoot and very smooth.

Can't go wrong with a Lee t/d IMO.

Will the longbow limbs and recurve limbs fit the same riser?

I have owned several Lees over the years and used to shoot them exclusively. They shoot great and are appealing to the eyes.

Only downfall they are the noisiest recurve I have ever shot. I owned them for over 10 years and tried everything know to man to quite them down . I finally found what would quite them down -sell them.

BUT I still recommend them as good shooters because they are that. I just can't stand a loud bow .

I recently got back one that I had sold two years ago. It is staying on the rack this time. It is one of the smoothest bows I have ever had. When I first got it, I had heard people refer to bows as smooth but did not really know what they meant. The first time I drew this bow, I got it!

I have the recurve riser and switch between 4 sets of either recurve or longbow limbs depending on my mood.

Yes the longbow and recurve limbs will interchange.

They are good performers decent speed, and very smooth with a good grip.

As far as being loud as mentioned above they do take a little work to quiet down but after tinkering with mine it is the quietest recurve I have ever shot. A fast flight style string (astro flight) and staying on the high side of the brace height and wearing bow hush and hush puppies turned mine extremely quiet.

There without a doubt my favorite go to bow. They have excellent customer service, and by most standards an extremely fast turn around on orders. As an example the last one I had Rob make for me was on my doorstep 11 days after I placed the order by phone!

Here are a few pictures.

I have a TD longbow and love it.I have had and shot alot of the other top end bows and I go with the Bob Lee.They have the best grip made (IMO) they fit like a glove, there smooth, fast and queit.I have heard that they are loud any bow will be loud if you dont tune them proplery.

I dont think you will be let down.

I've been shooting my Classic (60"/55# @ 28") for the past 8 years.   Very smooth to draw and as quiet a bow as I have ever shot.....wouldn't sell it for the world.  Plus, the Lee's are super people to deal with!

Great bows and great people to do business with . My T/d recurve is quiet, built like a tank , fast and forgiving.

I cannot recommend the Lee's highly enough.

I have the Hunter model. I think it is great bow, but It is the only custom bow that I have.

i have a bob lee hunter takedown bow.  i like it, but i hunt my silvertip. i think i'm gonna snake skin my limbs now that i saw dennis' pics. that would be a neat project and really dress the bow up. it's kinda plain looking. dennis, where did you get those antler knobs?

my bob lee T/D is the only bow i've owned and i love it.
i'd like to try a border black douglas but that would mean i'd have to not shoot the lee.
