Removing shelf material
« on: June 05, 2007, 09:31:00 PM »
I just ordered some new shelf material and was wondering what I should use to remove the  sticky residue from my bow when I remove the old material. I don't want to damage the  finish.

I heard rubbing alcohol but that seems a little harsh.

Thanks!

"Goof Off"...Won't hurt the finish...smells like lighter fluid.............

Goof-off works great. Better than Goo-gone. I've never had it bother the finish. Doesn't smell as good, but I think it works faster with less rubbing.

I use Balistol, it's a European product that is big with the old fashion muzzleloading crowd.

Stuff works great for clean up on bows, especially sticky/glue residue.  It's one of those products with about a 100 uses.

Denatured alcohol also works.

I just my finger tips and rub. Rubbing will eventually heat up the glue and it comes off rolled up and looking like a booger on your finger.

I learned something recently that I thought I would pass on...talking about shelf material. If you go to a fabric store you can buy velcro in 1-2" wide strips that has self-adhesive on the other side. Real durable material and works great and is CHEAP! Maybe you guys knew this already...? New to me.
