pawnshop find
« on: January 16, 2011, 11:59:00 AM »
I found a Bear Super Kodiak with attached quiver for $59 at a pawn shop.  Well,.... you know I could not pass that up.
I think I was in trouble with the boss until she saw the MSRP of a new one.
We have both shot it and it shoots great, but I think I can get more out of it.  It has upper and lower brass knocks on the string with a bit of a gap between them.  The upper knock is too high.  The brace hight  is at 7 1/8.  The string appears to be two stands.  It has to go.
The Bear web site states the new bows come with fast-flight string.
This bow is an '03 model.  I do not have fast-flight on any of my bows.  I have seen what it does to bows that are not made for it.
Does anyone know for sure if an '03 will take fast-flight?
Does anyone have any suggestions on set up?  I am sure I can improve this bows current set up but I am even more sure there are a whole lot of more knowledgeable guys out there who can do better than me.
So give me some ideas.
Thanks!

You got a steal on that bow. You might check with Bear on the fast flight issue.

educated guess on my part but I am lucky enough to live 18 minutes from the Bear archery pro shop and I am almost certain that bow is NOT fast flight ready!--  I would call and be 100% but if it were mine I wouldnt put on on.

That is a GREAT find though!

Even if it is FF compatible, don't use FF.  The speed difference is negligible and the deer don't care.

I don't know if she will ever think I am as smart as I am handsome.
As handsome as I am that is a pretty high bar to reach.

After 37 years of marriage, she has seen some pretty bonehead stuff.  That is a pretty low bar to start from.

A Super Kodiak with a quiver for $59.  If it is an old one in good shape, I am jealous, envious, thou shalt not covet thy neighbors bow or his quiver or anything that is thy neighbors.  Good thing you ain't my neighbor.

I put a different string on it.
Took off the quiver.
I all ready think it is quieter and my groups are tighter.
My son came over.  I may have a fight on my hands just to keep it.

I could not believe it when I found it.
I kept looking at the price and looking to find what was wrong with it.
All I could see was minor scratches.  It even had the reduce prices on it.  In February it would drop to $39 and the last price reduction dropped it to $29.
I kept thinking this is crazy.  What is wrong with it?
I wondered what the guy was thinking when he sold it and what did he get for it.
The pawn shop has got to make a profit.
Then I looked at the wheel bows and figured nobody wanted recurves, so I had better jump on it.
I did try to talk them down, though it was not very hard.
I said I will take it.
That's when I got the  evil eye, shortly followed by the silent treatment.
I was resigned to be in the dog house for this deal.  Sometimes you got to do what you got to do.
Thankfully it only lasted about 20 minutes.

If the tips have the black and white overlays on it, it will be FF compatible. I have an 07 Super K, tried to sell it 3 times all three deals fell through. I shoot it quite often/well took it hunting this year for deer and scored my first traditional bow kill with it, I think I will keep it.
