Need a new tab
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:38:00 PM »
Well it finally happened.  I lost my favorite tab.  It was an older calf hair model and I have long since forgotten where I bought it and who made it.  I have plenty of spares, but none of them strike my fancy like the old one did.  The Saunders pk tabs are ok, but I really liked that old leather and calf hair tab a lot.

I have literally shot the calf hair side off of some of the newer tabs in a day or two...junk!  Who still makes a great calf hair tab?  I need to break some in here in the next week or two...

Not sure about the calf hair tabs. I have a big shot buffalo I really like. But the tab I use is a Fred Eichler tab I got from 3 rivers. Great tab.

You may wish to read the 3 Rivers Black Widow 3-Under Hair Tab reviews which are posted on their website.

I love the Fred Eichler tab too. (3R) I like the Alaska bowhunting cordovan tab too and used them for years but the Eichler tab has taken over.

I tore the finger on my calf-hair tab and came up with a cobbled up tab based on the finger loop and spacer of the Kant Pinch (or whatever Three Rivers sells that looks like one) and a plain leather tab I had kicking around I never liked that had an elastic loop for the middle finger.  I really like the result - but will never be able to duplicate it.

I have always liked the EW Bateman tab and have several that are 3-5 years old. The ones I have always used were cordovan leather. I got a calf hair to try, little more feel to the string awesome release.

I have not shot it long enough to report on the longevity I have only had it 6 months or so.

+3 on the Bateman - the last one I picked up was thinner than my other, maybe it was an oddball but I like them a little thicker (cleaner release for me)

Black Widow makes a nice one.  I like that it has the fenders between the fingers!

I like the Black Widow tabs. Stopped shooting a glove because of them.

I've shot a Neet calf hair tab for years, but about 2 months ago, I tried a Fred Eichler tab from 3Rivers.  I really like the Eichler tab. Quick release and feels great (I like to feel the string on my fingers). I've shot this tab quite a bit with no wear showing.  I'll probably lose it before I wear it out.

Gregg,

I think Don Ward at Eagle Flight Archery makes a nice calf hair tab and could fix you up with what you need.

I like the Bateman cordovan tabs and have several of them. The Fred Eichler tab that 3Rivers sells also looks very nice.

I have not been able to find a calf hair tab that I can keep the hair on long at all.  I like the BW tab a lot, but they don't last for me.  I have been shooting the pac-tab and liking it, but got a Fred Eichler tab that 3Rivers sells and I am set now.  Best tab for me that I have ever tried.

I like the Eichler tab, but only shot cheap felt ones before that.  It is pretty thin, which I like.  The cordovan is now totally separated from the backing (cheap glue), but it still works fine.
