Anyone bowfish out of their kayak?
« on: January 20, 2011, 01:18:00 PM »
Has anyone tried bowfishing out of their kayak or canoe with the use of stabilizers or kayaks that claim you can stand in?

I have done it in an Old Town synthetic canoe for years.

Just have to sit down and not get excited.

Several people in the local club bowfish from canoes. One has a factory set of pontoons and one made a set from 4 inch PVC pipe.

That rig looks solid enough to shoot from. But, I turned over a 17' Grumman wide body canoe about 6 hours after the last cold front came through. Went all the way to the bottom in our lake. Interestingly, it was just as cold as the top.

There is a man on here from a littel coury below France that had a video of him doing just that. He also had a cool antler arrow rest? maybe he will read this - The native water craft are made to stand up in? would work.

I have a Native 12' and can stand up and fly fish from it. It has a tunnel hull design and is very stable. Bow fishing is no problem.

Andy, that video was very cool.  I noticed the three fingers under - are we sure that isn't Jobuck with long hair?  Looked like his arms...

One of the best bowfishing videos I've seen.  I love the music, the loon calls, and the sepia color--very artistic.

That video is awsome and looks like a blast.

With bowfishing, elevation is an advantage so in areas with high populations of fish it may be better to get out and wade.  Either way, that looks like fun!

One thing I would like to point out is that he was not using a saftey slide and was tied to the back of an arrow.  ALWAYS USE A SAFTEY SLIDE!!

If you don't believe me, google bowfishing snapback and see what can happen.

I bought 3 kayaks last year and have only fished with them with a rod and rel. Guess I will have to do some bow fishing out of one. That looked like a lot of fun.

I've done it out of a canoe many times, though  i've gotten wet doing it several times too.  It's a lot of fun though.  Make sure you have everything tied down that you don't want to lose.

Anyone have PVC outrigger plans they'd like to share?

Thanx
